Pompano Beach, FL

lol funny you mention Pompano. I live there. There's really not much at all in the way of hockey shops. Incredible Ice is the practice facility of the Florida panthers which is about 20 miles away from pompano beach, and it has a nice proshop. It's a first line NBH dealer and has everything new and recent....the 9KO stick, Vapor XXXX sticks, Stealth S17, etc...but the only hockey shops in the area have pretty much closed or just don't have good stuff period. Glacier ice and snow arena which is in North Pompano has a poor pro shop, Incredible will be your best bet by far.

I ran that thru the translator and it came out "So I'm heading out to Pompano Beach in Florida tomorrow. I wanted you all to know."

lol Pompano's shitty anyways, it's one of the least nicest places (anywhere along the beach is relatively nice though) along coastal South Florida but on the plus side, it's cheaper and close enough to go to all the nice places (Boca, Miami/South Beach, Ft. Laud, Panthers games (YEAAAA).

Me and my girl went there last year from Tampa, drove over for a weekend and stayed at a resort on the beach, although I can't remember the name. Was a nice place, had some great times and food. Thinking of doing it again. I would never think to shop hockey there though :(

Hmm guess I won't be thinking about hockey for the next 2 weeks then. I live in Quebec, Canada and we have proshops at almost every corner. I can walk 5 mins to get my skates sharpen. When I'm at my girlfriend's house, I can walk 5 mins to get my skates sharpen. When I'm at school, I can walk 5 mins to get my skates sharpen lol. If any of you ever plan on coming to Quebec, save up on some money because you're definitely gonna be wanting to buy stuff hehe

If I lived in Quebec, I would figure the idea of going to Florida in December is to forget about hockey for 2 weeks! On the other hand going from Florida to Quebec in December and say, try to look for baseball equipment in Montreal seems a stretch, too. I could use a little FLA right about now. Have a great trip!

FLA is overrated...I hate living here  Can't wait to finish school and head back up north where people move at a good pace and don't drive like they are in a coma.

I have family there. I love to visit for about a week at a time. After that the humidity, rain, slow drivers, traffic and rest of the novelty wear off and I want to fly back to the mountains.

OMG the drivers are so awful man...They stare at a green light for 5 seconds before pulling away from the intersection, causing half the line of traffic to miss the light. I get so heated when I'm the one that doesn't get to run the yellow and then I have to sit another 5 minutes.

Florida and poor driving definitely aren't mutually exlusive, but I hear ya for sure.

Have a ton of family in and around Miami. Cuban side. Who would've thought... ;)

In Texas, there's a lot of this out in the rural areas. We also have suicide lanes, but I don't think those are exclusive to Texas.

You're right. I guess I meant forget about snow.

I couldn't live in FLA year round. I would sweat just walking to the truck.

I am so glad I work in a hockey rink when its 95* with 100% humidity here around metro NYC in the summer.

The real idea of going to FLA. is to get away from the crappy cold weather in Canada and to relax a bit and get away from the fast pace life style we lead up here. I live in Toronto and I find it a bit of a pleasure just to take my time doing anything when I'm down there. I love my hockey and Canada but I'm someone who could handle the hockey without the biting cold temperatures in the winter in Canada. I absolutely would have no problem living in Florida and intend to find somewhere to retire in the warmer weather of the Sunshine State. That way I can stay relatively comfortable and still follow my hockey and even pull on the blades sometimes and play with some other old retired Canadian farts. With communications the way is today it shouldn't be a big problem pulling up a few games to watch either on the satellite channels.

You do realize that there are two NHL teams in the state right? :)

I'm the opposite, don't want any part of Florida. Lived there for 15 yrs.

I broke a stick in Pompano last year and needed to buy a new one...well I ended up not finding anything.

Forget about glacier arena pro shop...unless you wanna buy some old stuff! lol

So I'm in Pompano right now... just got back from the Canadiens-Panthers game. Tickets are so cheap, only 40$. And you guys were right, I didn't see any hockey shops. BUT I walked to this surf-shop and found Mr.Zogs wax for 1$ each ! I bought 8 already and I'll probably go back to buy some with the rest of the American money I'm left with. They only had the warm water wax but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to tell the difference b/w that and the hockey one ?

Yes JR. I do realize Florida has the Lightning and the Panthers but I meant to follow the Canadian teams on the satellite links. Still very loyal to the Leafs, Senators and Canadians. Leafs make it very hard to be a fan but after all I am from Toronto. Another perk for living there is the fact tickets are tremendously cheaper to the games in FLA. so you can see your favourite team without mortgaging the house.

For me it's a perfect fit for when I retire. Still stay up here for the Christmas season but I'll jet down after until the worst of the bad weather is gone. Besides the kids will need somewhere to stay when they come for vacation so the old man can give them cheap digs to hang there.
