IIHF Junior Semis on NHLN Canada vs US

Recommended Posts

I know there is a thread open on the coverage but it's 2 pages back and looking for computer feeds. With the game 18 hrs away I wanted to let as many people know as I could. Canada vs US, like I don't get enough of that crap at work already. Makes for good locker room banter though, 1/3 or so of our 2 teams are from Canada the rest the US.

For those of us here in the US the IIHF Junior semis are on the NHL Network tomorrow for those of us fortunate enough to get it.

1:30 pm pregame show

2:00 pm Canada vs USA

5:30 pm Sweden vs Russia

Sweden/Russia is actually the first game of the day at 10A. TSN has it Live, NHLN is showing that one on tape...so if you don't want to know how it ends stay off tsn.ca and MSH for the day *L* Or at least be selective as to what threads you read.

great game so far. the US is starting to create more chances but i could see a finish like last year with how both teams are playing.

Yea the U.S.'s first shift was really great but Canada matched it plus more. I have no idea why they didn't pull their goaile on the 5-on-3 but it's not our call. Anyone see how close the third goal was to being offside? Wow tough call.

I thought Canada really dominated the game, US wasn't able to generate hardly any serious scoring chances until the game was well out of reach.

That is because you kept listening to that asshat Pierre Maguire.

Canadians lose puck = bad ice

Americans lose puck = meltdown

When a team outshoots you 37-26 it is pretty hard to claim you dominated the game.

That third goal wasn't close to being offside, it was offside. Maguire doesn't seem to understand the rules.

Yes, it was Mcguiers fault the US lost.

Although the game is old news, but my personal opinion was the Canada didn't dominate, and the US had more than enough talent to win. But, for some reason, the US got more interested in yapping and trash talking, and I think it got them away from their game - they started to worry about things that weren't important.

No, Mason putting up a brick wall, and Smith not able to match him, was the reason the US lost. The Maguire comment about the rules was simply because even when presented with a clear photo that the play was offside he could only say it was close.

Actually no, I was watching the game with no sound on.

My reaction was based on the fact that Canada was up 4-0 at one point...I don't know where you come from, but around here that means you are getting dominated.

The majority of the US shots were not good scoring chances at all, so I could care less what the final shot tally was.

It's pretty tough to chirp the Canadian Juniors these days...4 straight golds and counting with the next two tourneys on our home ice.

I couldn't watch the game, but I think this happens year after year simply because the Canadian kids grow up following this event so closely while it is just in the back of the minds of most US kids growing up. They have more pride in winning and dream of winning it throughout their entire childhood. I know there are exceptions, but with the amount of talent the US had this year, that is my only conclusion to why they couldn't pull this off.

Score alone doesn't define whether or not a team is dominating another. The second Canadian goal was the result of Smith not being square because of his stick getting caught up in his own d-man's feet. The third goal was a shot that Smith absolutely should have had.

I think it was more a case of Mason making the stops when he had to. The Bronze game, that was another story. The Americans looked like they were skating with pianos on their backs. The effort level just wasn't the same and it showed.
