The NHL needs to start fining the way the NFL/NBA does. In the Association, if a coach or player speaks out against the League it is a substanial fine...in the NFL...late/cheap hits get big fines $15,000 or more, even if there is no suspension attached.

Fining a guy $2,500 is a joke.

Fines for players are limited by the CBA. Clarke should get $20k and the team should get $100k for this.

If the new Players Assoc guy (I forget his name) is as serious as he says he is about helping to clean up the cheap shots...maybe he should loosen that restriction. Hey, if his guys don't want to give up money...they have to clean up their acts. The NFL has a PA/CBA too...and they have big fines for cheap hits.

I think the difference is that Hamrlik is a little more in the realm of a guy who might fight. Blake was never going to fight...so the cheap hot seems cheaper on him.

It's also different when you are actually IN a fight...Blake had his gloves on.

Throughout history they've gotten all the breaks all along. What is this barely touched jersey you speak of? The pulling down of Blake followed by the sucker punch while he was tied up? Give me a break and watch the clips.

Look, a hit from behind happens. It should be called, but they happen on a regular basis in almost every game I watch. A sucker punch well after the play while the one player being held is a little different. If you aren't able to distinguish the two, you really shouldn't be involved in the discussion. Downie's got a much worse history than Poni, and that comes into play. This is a guy who has done some absolutely vicious things with the only intent being to injure.

With the current setup of the instigator rule and the steve moore incident. I highly doubt Downie will "get his" as many of you suggest. It's sad, because he should be put in check, but it is true, nobody wants to take a chance taking him out for fear of Bertuzzi-like consequences.

Yea Downie was holding on for dear life running his mouth during the fight. Clarkson was cut and Doc and Chico were speculating that Downie might have gouged him to get the cut. I don't think that was the case, he caught Clarkson with a shot early but then he held on and started to yap. Afterwards the linesman had to pick up Downies hearing aid which fell out.

Hahaha yea I watched it a few times and can't tell where he got cut. Just assumed it was from a punch early. Glad Clarkson slapped him like the little bitch he is. I was watching the game in HD on Comcast and they were raving about how Downie won the fight and Clarkson being the aggressor. Some nights it just isn't worth the beauty of HD when you have to listen to Jim Jackson.
