grip tape

Recommended Posts

I've used grip tape before and I didn't think it made much of a difference. People keep saying that it ruins your palms but mine were fine. Also I think that it actually last longer (in terms of color[haha] and quality). What are your guy' thoughts on it?

i started using stretch grip tape a couple years ago, and haven't switched since. it's not any harder on palms, but if you go with a dyed tape, the colour may seep a little into the palm.

read somewhere that if you use black tape, the dye actually screws up the palms. I switched to white tape since then, and no problems whatsoever....

thats a debate that has been going on for years. I have heard from tape companies that it doesn't, but others swear it does.

It does in my experience, tore my Warriors palms up when they were brand new :[

I don't like then anyway though so it's okay.

Well, I can say that once i did change to the white tape, the palms on my gloves now last more than a year of playing 1-2 times a week.

For the guys on my team who still use the black tape, it still craps their palms. told them about the tape, but they dont really care much....

if by black tape you mean "friction tape" then of course its going to do more damage to your gloves because its got that added glue or whatever to make it sticky on both sides

but I have a hard time believing that regular cloth tape in white is going tobe different from regular cloth tape in black

i'm using white bicycle grip tape (easton brand, of course!)

my palms are doing just fine, except they are kinda blackened (originally white)

i guess whatever kind of tape you use (or even if you don't use any), it will still cause some kind of shit to your gloves, because the friction is always there.

but my experience does tell me that black tape makes your palms get black faster .

Another vote for Tacki Mac. Keeps top hand palms clean and doesn't tear them up...but of course will eventually wear a palm...albeit much slower than anything else I have seen

I have tried all sorts of tapes. Anything with a dye will rub off into a light colored palm, but that is of no concern as coloration does not effect the durability of the palm. What does effect the durability are the adhesives used on tape. They all end to ball up and get deep into the fabric of the palms, creating friction and impacting durability. The other factor is the material. The more abrasive...the more likely it is to wear away the palm.

I use tennis grip -- the blue wrap. I love the non-sticky grip feel and it seems to save my palms. Some guys I played with back in Mass swore by it.

Grip tape tore up my palms. I have tried Tacki-Mac, it was a good product, just a bit thick for me. I use regular hockey tape, and wrap a layer of clear tape over the top. Not slippery at all and can use wahtever color tape I want and not worry about discoloring my palms, if I ever did worry about it much!

I've switched to black cloth tape. It marks up my gloves, but it doesn't wear anywhere near as much as the powerflex did. And my gloves cost $40 new anyways.

I agree with tacki-mac. I've got one on every stick. Made the switch about 1.5 years ago and havn't regretted it a bit. Palms don't get all nasty and the grip stays even when its soaking wet. I love it.

I use stretch grip tape and just switched to Vapor XXX gloves. There is a definite wear and discoloration after only about a month of use on my top hand's palm. I think I'm going to switch to either tennis wrap or tacki-mac.

Odd... the Powerflex has been very kind to my palms.

a lot of pros use that same setup

Well I was at a Bruins game, hit the pro shop and picked up a pro stock Sturm UltraLite and felt the grip and said "damn, that feels nice" and the rest is history.
