Best forward-flex high-end skate

Recommended Posts

I've given my One90's a almost two years and because of where my leg broke, the lower front of my leg kills me after each game. I'm assuming it's because the forward flex of this skate is too stiff. The heel of this skate fits great, so I probably cannot switch to a RBK skate (I wear 7.5EE in the One90). What skate has the best forward flex, or a better flex than my One90's? I need to buy right away because the pain is too much.

Thanks!

I honestly have no idea about flex, but maybe another consideration is something with a lower cut boot as well. Mission AG series comes to mind.

Pretty much all Grafs are low-cut skates to help with forward flex. The most flexible will be the 707. The Ultra G7 shares the concept of the 707, but with stiffer materials.

Mission AG Series is also designed specifically for enhanced forward flex.

The problem you may run into with the 707/Ag skates is that their lateral support isn't anything near as stiff as what you currently get in the ONE90s. The Ultra G7 may give additional lateral support due to stiffer materials, so if you can find a shop that carries these, you'd also want to look at them as well.

Try not doing up the top eyelets and see if that helps.

If you find that is not enough support, try skipping the second set of eyelets from the top, then use the top eyelets...it will increase forward flex.

i believe that if you are looking for STIFF lateral support..... AGX will address this. solid skate and a great price! it will also be a part of the stick promo which will get you a FUEL Ti.

When's that coming out? I'm probably in the market for skates pretty soon as my Vapors are wearing down pretty fast.

I was recommended to try skipping the second from top eyelet and lace the top. I've found it gives me better forward flex than just skipping the top eyelet and more support than skipping the top two. But it seems like my laces loosen up and I have to tighten them every other shift. Could be that my heel is too narrow for the skate or something.

Bauer's vapor line from day one implemented a "forward flex" design. If you look at the eyelets, instead of a gradual curve as they progress to the top. On the vapor's however they almost take a sharp degree as they progress. In your case trial and error can be costly and really annoying. But for sake of pain it will be worth it. It must be absolutely painful for you.

Hah, well not painful, I'm not that good a skater. More like annoying. I've gone through four liners, half a dozen lengths and types of laces, baked, punched, and all that. Just a PITA I suppose. It'd be nice to have skates that work right out of the box, or close to it.

If it were me I would try the vapor line. First time I tried them after a lifetime of supremes it was the very first thing I noticed. I would't suggest loosening the top eyelets for a skater of your calibre. It might ease your pain but hinder your ability. You know...you could try getting a skate that is a half size bigger. The upper portion of the boot will get larger and that also might solve your problem giving you more mobility and comfort. Just a thought.

I noticed the same thing. In 8090's I had to leave the top eyelet undone....dont have to in the XXXX's.

AGX will probably be shipping within the next month or two. great price and solid skate. i am also a fan of skipping eyelets. i skated Bauer for years and would have to do that. the difference with the AG style of fit is the cuff- assymetrical.

"the lower front of my leg kills me after each game."

Why does this sound like lace bite to me? Maybe you're foot is jut too big for that skate. What about the good ol' pencil test? You just may need a different type of skate that will fit the mass of your foot/ankle.

Try this. Then try on a bunch of different skates. Report back with any further questions.

I'm also in the same boat and already low on budget. I just got a pair of vapor shifts 06 generation and find it stiff and hard to flex compare to my old graf skates which wasn't as stiff which also allowed me to flex more. I want to tie my vapors still tight at the top offering the same ankle support when tying it up all the way. Any suggestionss?

would a G5 in E width, be wider then the s15 in D width, i know it might sound like a dumb question but the s15s are really wide i have noticed, and are the G5's deeper then the Vapor 8 or vapor line? any thing helps thanks a bunch!

I thought the 705's had the most forward flex available... not sure

Even in the Garf line itself the 707 is supposed to have the most forward flex. Lots of manufactures claim to offer the most forward flex, but I'd start by finding a skate that fits and then experimenting with lacing techniques (for the record, skipping the 2nd eyelet from the top does the trick on my Vapor XXVs).

well, i'm going to try just skipping the top eyelet and see if it works with my vapor to promote a better stride. Btw if the boot holds your heel very well then different methods of tieing your skates would be helpful still right?
