Crosby Injured

Speaking of teams looking to make a trade and not for goaltending...

Pitt has nobody worth mentioning at forward besides Malkin now that Sid is down. On top of that, Conklin is due up to turn ice cold. Maybe they'll take Jagr back?

Armstrong? Malone? Sykora? Anyone of them can use this as an opportunity to step up.

This just in from the NHL; Paul Ranger suspended pending a review by Gary Bettman, RBK and the illuminati.

crosby getting injured might be the only way malkin will make it to the allstar game.

also i saw when crosby crashed into the boards and he wasn't even going that fast. he didnt even look at the boards like he was expecting to hit it and then just get up and keep going. i think he could have easily lifted up his legs and avoided it but instead he didnt seem worried and went in feet first.

im sure he wishes he had a do-over there.

In talking about the Crosby injury os TSN last night, Glen Healey blamed the stiffness of the boots. He said that with so little flex, they are leading to the number of high sprains that occur?

Any truth to that...or just Healey being a jerk.

That just doesn't sit well with me. It wasn't an overtly dirty play, just an attempt to dislodge the player from the puck. I guess when the poster boy of the NHL goes down for ANY reason they feel a need to make a statement.

I could tell with Chadd talking about it he was joking, but other people sound more serious...it looks as if there was a penalty called on the play, but nothing that would warrant a suspension anyways

Looked like a bit of a dive to me, and I am a Crosby fan, the guy is great, but that looked like he went down a bit easy considering how strong of a skater he is...if it was a dive, I'm sure he is regretting it now :(

interesting, looks like point-getters getting injured may be the new trend.

not just point getters, but guys who were going to go to the all star game.

As a result, a surge in "high-ankle sprains" have hit youth hockey worldwide.

There's truth to it when Healey shows me his degree in physics.

It's not complete BS. If the skate is so stiff that your foot won't bend in it, then the force applied on the foot is going to be generated upward, above the boot where some ligaments attach. It's common sense when you think of it. We've talked a lot about dispersion of forces on ski boots in some of my biomechanics classes, and the same principles can apply to todays hockey skates. The force just doesn't disappear.

That was his argument, and he used ski boots as an example. So, I guess he isn't full of --it, at least in this instance.

I think it could be possible because the stiffness, just a question after a bball player hurts his ankle and wears a brace, if he hurts that ankle again is it higher up.

Most sprains occur when an ankle turns in a direction it isn't meant to. The stiffness of a boot only effects where in the ankle the sprain occurs, not how often.

more bad news for the pens colby armstrong just had basically the same thing happen to him under a minute into the montreal game...he has gone to the dressing room.

edit: update he just came back and went on for a shift but then he went back to the dressing room.

Looks like it was his own fault (not to sound like a Crosby basher but...) I've seen him jump back up to his feet in milliseconds before I'm sure he just thought he wasn't going fast enough to cause any damage and got caught out by sods law.

Yeah, he was trying to make a play while he was sliding, so he definitely wasn't expecting to get hurt.
