Oberon

Finally, the low lie I've been looking for...

I caught a couple of periods of a sled hockey tourney last year at one of the rinks I play at- if you ever get the chance I suggest doing the same. These guys and girls are great athletes, and the game itself is very engrossing. very hard shooting, and a lot more body contact than you would think possible.

Funny... I suspect everyone's aware that they're for the special olympics though, right?

STILL they're odd looking (er, the blades, not the fellows on the special olympic teams)

They're not for the Special Olympics. They are for the sport of Sledge Hockey which is a medal sport in the Winter Paralympic Games. There is a big difference between Special Olympics and Paralympics.

Back when I first started working in MI the bookkeeper for the company I worked for was involved in sled hockey so we had quite a few players shop there. One of the guys played for the US team and he had Easton sled OPSs (SyN SL paint job) with the US flag and Torino 2006 on it. Wanted me to cap the butt end so he can put the spikes in it.

i went to a stick and puck once and there were a couple sled hockey guys on the ice. everyone started scrimmaging so i joined in. when the good sled hockey guys get the puck, its very difficult to steal it from them. they stick handle back and forth underneath the sled. they can shoot harder than you would think too.

Anyone else ever played Sledge Hockey? I played a few years ago with a group from my GF's office. We played against an actual Sledge Hockey team...can't remember what level they, or if they had competed Internationally.

Having to move yourself with just your arms, and keep your balance on the sled, and still stick handle/shoot & pass. It looks easy when you see people who are good at it do it...but it's hard!
