I need new skates

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Buying new kit isnt really my thing considering i have had my 8090's for 3 1/2 years now. Alas they are starting to fall apart (quite literally) so i am in the market for some new skates...

I currently have the 8090's in a size 10 EE but i think i actually need them in size 9.5 EE. Anyways, what skates would you guys recommend? (money no issue).

Thanks in advance

My RBK 9K should be arriving any day, so i'll let you know how they are. They are replacing my Bauer One90.

So if your coming from a One90 (i assume a good fit in those) you wont have the perfect skate with the 9k, tho the pumps will help you out..

Anyways, if you want to replace 8090s, keep your eyes peeled for 8K, 9K, Easton S15, Bauer Supreme 70 and maybe a (pro stock) S9 skate (which is basically a 8090).

If you can find a pair, I would consider Pro-Tacks. I switched from 8090's to 7k Pumps and the skates are comfortable, but the heels are really wide in the Pumps. The Pro-Tacks fit me better.

Do you have any particular foot issues that made you choose the 8090's? I am skating the 8090 as well, mainly because of my insanely high arches. The only option I would have currently if my 8090's were on the outs would be a Graf 709. If you have trouble with depth in a skate even the 9ks and One90's won't be much good to you. Just fyi.

From looking at e-bay often, I always noticed 8090's there that are in really good condition if not completely new. I'm always a believer in sticking to what you know best. And I love the word "kit".

I love the fit of the 8090's, they may not be quite deep enough but they are the best fitting skates i've ever had (much better than the vector pros i had before). I have very wide, very flat feet but i also need a very deep skate.

I second that motion. When it comes to skates you might find a "deeper" boot but it might cause another issue somewhere else. Go to your LSH and try on everything you can. Luck of the draw really. One guy might like his RBK's another guy might like his mission's. All about what YOU like buds. Opinion's vary...and are helpful, but at that same time, if you like it, stick with it. It's your foot.

Unless your holding a S9 its pretty hard to tell. they can be either a 3000, 5000, 7000, 8000, 8090, or whatever bauer model the pro wanted.

I was told that the One95's are suppose to fit like the 8090's. Someone Please correct me if I'm wrong. If they indeed do I'd say wait for them if you can.

I know they cost a lot but I got a great deal on the Vapour XXXX and they fit like a charm without using the oven. More impressed on the ice, they really are a great skate, not sure about the longevity of them, as I am usually harsh on the boots but we will see.

let me know when one95 are available

You're kidding, right? Go dig around the forum. It's there.

I really recommend Eastons S15 (coming from 8090)

We had 3 people come in during a 2 week timespan, all needing new skates, all coming from 8090's. One guy left with an Easton 1500c, and the other two with Easton S15's. We've had no complaints from them when they come in to get them sharpened. Just backing Sven on his statement.

I am interested in the depth comparison between these two skates...I was in Easton 1200's and now 8090's. I found the 8090's to be deeper. How much deeper is the S15 then the previous year's Easton line? Deeper than the 8090?

Thanks
