Vinny's skates

Recommended Posts

Hey guys have any of you ever noticed Lecavalier's skates? Specifically the distance b/t his leg and tendon guard?

Look around at those pics... either he's only lacing em up halfway or he's got chicken legs (or both). I heard Ovechkin wears his really loose too.

maybe skates are getting so stiff guys are forced to wear em a little looser just for better movement.? its all personal preference in the end, seems as tho its workin for him

Since you mentioned loose skates....Check out Ray Scapinello's skates...barely tied (if at all).

3rd pic...top row.

Chrimeny, look at image #11, the toe loop is so loose it looks like it's going to trip him up! How in the world does he not just jump right out of those on a stride? They must be like 3 sizes too small or something.

Vinny's ankles are pretty skinny, but a lot of the pictures make it seem like he doesn't lace up the top two eyelets. He may also have a thinner tongue, but also the U tongue has those ridges that make it a bit easier to flex.

A friend of mine would play inline games with his skates unlaced. I saw Vinny practice a few weeks ago and his skates looked loose, but nothing too unusual. Scampinello is a madman

I heard in his prime, and potentially even now, federov would skate at the end of practiced with his skates untied, and only up a few eyelets. An extreme example obviously, but a perfect stride is a perfect stride. On the flipside, there's guys from the Bure/Gaborik/Afinogenov school of ankle mummification so who knows.

He talks about the reason he wore them like that in his book...can't for the life of me remember now.

Yeah I have a buddy who takes lesson's from a russian skating instructor, the only reason I mention he is russian is because i noticed everytime i saw my friend skate another eyelet was unlaced he told me its some russian speed/strengthening thing. All I know is he is one of the best skaters I've ever seen. Oh just for reference, Vapor XXXX last time I saw him he was down 3 eyelets and looking to go 4.

I'm not sure if any of his eyelets were unlaced, but a lot of them sure looked loose judging from the shots of him in the skills comp.

I've been considering skipping the top two eyelets in my XXXXs. I feel like I have to strain to get the deep knee bend I want.

Good pic of vinny's skates.

Does anyone know how stiff the U+ will be? Curious if those that have had a chance to see/wear them can compare its stiffness to the XXXX.

That's a real good pic of what I mean. You can't really tell for sure, but on his right skate it looks like the eyelet under the sock is not used. I lace all the way up right now and I too feel like I have to use more force than necessary to get the knee bend.

probably because of the boot stiffness in the ankle area but still stiff enough along the forefoot to get good power.

I think I recall a pair of Vinny's Vectors on eBay that were a C width, so would suggest skinny feet.

Yeah, his left skate is a size 11.75C/AA and the right one is a 11.5C/AA.

If the blade is setup right you can. With the three variables : radius, pitch and hollow mixed properly you'll have stability and the blade won't overload the boot, so you won't need so much from the boot.

It all starts to feel more like you are in a pr. of sneakers which is really cool.

If you watch the Lightning a lot you will see it better. That was the best pic I could find, it's common to see that tendon guard further from his leg, it's crazy.

if you look at his back foot, you can see the last eyelet that he uses and the next one he skips, looks to be at least 2 that he skips. possibly 3, i havent seen the skates enough to know where the eyelets are etc?

im thinking he leaves the last two eyelets. but this pictures ridiculous, his stride's about a foot long  it may be hes just quickly accelerating or something in this pic, but that looks like an awful short stride to me
