Tapered Shaft - Wood Blade

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had success with the Christian / Harrow wood tapered blades? I ordered some pattern #3 / Drury last year and was disappointed. The construction was fine but the curve wasn't correct. It was shallower and not as open as the Drury should be. It was too straight. Since there isn't too many options for wooden tapered blades, I was really hopeful that Christian would work out. Anyone else have the same problem? Maybe I got a bad batch?

I love Christian blades, and am a big fan of Sher-Wood's 5030's. I find you usually have to shape them up a bit further yourself. I don't always get wood blades off the rack that are curved exactly how they should be either. For ice, I can see them getting soft a lot quicker than using them on either sportcourt/cement like I do. They get eaten up quicker on these surfaces instead, but no matter what composite blade I use, they're just never as good as wood.

I guess I was disappointed from using the tapered mission woodies until I couldnt find them anymore. I never once bought one that was misshapen. The curve was always spot on.

There needs to be more wood tapered blades imo, and to see easton doesnt even have them in their catalogue for 08'. Hard enough to find them sometimes as it is.

I've never noticed a problem with wooden blades getting "soggy." I guess I like the soft feel. I've gone 10-15 games with the same wooden stick w/o any problems.

Anyone have a pic of Lemieux or Recchi CCM 892 blade or know where I can find one, preferably right handed?

Hockeymonkey.com has them avaliable in both curves.

Ah, sorry. I meant if anyone knew where I could find a pic of the real curve. I know hockeymonkey has them but I'd like to see a real pic before buying. Sorry about the confusion.

They have videos of them on the site. Look it up.

Just got my Warrior Dolo 2 and XXX Lite Wood P9 Blade put together. Can't wait to use it this week and reap the benefits of the Tapered Wood Combo. Anyone know a good place to stock up on the XXX Lite Wood blades if it turns out I want more?

So I just got the official word from my LHS that easton is no longer going to make wood blades for their tapered shafts. I am dissappointed, I liked my wood sakic blade and synergy 2 shaft setup. Anyone have any ideas on a good replacement blade for me from here on out. Note: its hard to find XXX lite wood blades let alone the P92 arund here.

I also learned that they are cutting back on production of wood sticks and the number of patterns offered. I understand cutting back on the number of sticks produced but limiting the availability of patterns and completely discontinuing wood tapered blades is a little extreme. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

You get the feel of a wood blade, plus the versatility of a shaft with a lower kickpoint, which will make it feel more like a OPS.

Once you break your synergy, cut it, and use it, the flex and all of the "Technology" in the stick will have deminished.

Good Choice IMO.

What are some good tapered wood combos out there. I've been thinking of switching out of one pieces for a little while and the only shaft/blade combo i've used in the last three years was the ak27 warrior shaft and pm9 blade and I like it. But i'm looking for other suggestions.

FWIW, my 100 flex AK27 kicks harder than my 100 flex Dolo2. if you've still got the AK27, there's nothing wrong with using that with the wood blades, and standard wood blades are a lot easier to find than tapered.

I just picked up fury wood tapered blades from hockeygiant for 9.50 a pop last week. They are pretty nice, but they are selling out pretty quick. They had a deal on the RBk 6K tapered shaft as well. I got two shafts, and four blades fro $120 shipped to Alaska. Thats a steal in my book.......

Does anyone know if they plan on continuing on making the xxx-lite wood blades next year? It's hard to find them as it is and with Easton discontinuing theirs, selection is looking grim. I wanna stock up a couple synII's while everything will be on sale but if I'm not going to be able to find blades I might have to go back to the old u'l's.
