Itech helmet fit

Recommended Posts

I just got an Itech helmet that seemed to fit okay when I tried it on. But now it's starting to feel tight on the sides to the point that it's a bit painful. I had this problem with a CCM helmet in the past, but not as bad. How are Itech and CCM helmets in terms of width? Are there any lids that fit wider? It seems RBK gear (skates, shins) fit wider in general. Should I look into those?

I had the same issue recently with a CCM Vector lid. Since then I've resumed my helmet search and I've found that width-wise, RBK buckets fit me best. Also, oddly enough, I found the NBH 5500 to be a decent fit, but the more customizable 8500 to be pretty uncomfortable. YMMV, of course, but give RBK or the 5500 a look.

I might give the 4500 a try since it's got VN. Hopefully it fits like the 5500 you described. It's funny how a brand will make their gear in relatively similar widths.

HC95 or HC100? 95 is pretty narrow as the VN is pretty thick, 100 is fairly wide

these fit a lot narrower than the 5500/8500

It's an HC95 in XL.

get a haircut

With my lightbulb-shaped head and my crew cut, I don't think that'll get me very far.

Every single person on our team had that problem this year with our new CCM Vector helmets. Our coach requires us all to wear the same helmet and we've used 690s in the past but he ordered a team set of Vectors for this year. The first week we used them everyone on the team complained about how painful the helmet was on the temples. It eventually went away and now it feels like any other helmet. I'd say the helmet just needs to be broken in a bit. The fact that you just got it and it fit good when trying it on means that it is a fairly good fit to your head, but just needs to be broken in to your head shape a little bit before all the pain is gone. Maybe wear it around the house to break it in quicker.

I had an HC100 and it was painful on my temples, so I cut out some of the padding and it worked. however I replaced it with an NBH4500 and I'm much happier with this bucket.

Same here - the HC100 did fit wider than my old CCM bucket, but it was still tight enough on the sides that it got annoying. I replaced it with a 5500 - a very good fit, but a slew-foot a couple weeks ago put me on my back and I can tell you the padding in the 5500 is not the softest.

get a wood stick plug, and cut it to size, then stick it inside the helmet from temple to temple...should help stretch it.

Is that the greatest idea? Boot stretching seems alright, but this is the thing that's supposed to protect your head.

I think it'd be better to simply shave down/cut out bits of padding. Guaranteed not to de-shrink back.

I don't see how it can be dangerous? But I am also not talking about stretching it out an INCH. only a centimeter or so to take the pressure points off.

Well I suppose it would be more dangerous. Dropping a helmet a couple of feet is enough to break the structure of EPP foam.

In the case of VN, the decreased thickness = less cushioning = less momentum decrease before brain hits cranium in a hard hit = increased chance of concussion or other injuries.

The chance is very slim, but still existent.
