Vinny and Alfie might have something to say about that, especially with the way Alfie's played since Heatley got hurt.

Crosby, Lecavalier... The bolts would be really bad if Vinny wasn't putting up his numbers. Vinny and Marty are basically the only offense the Lightning have had this season and Marty is only really productive if he's on the ice with Vinny.

Crosby has been dishing the puck out like crazy. We'll see how the Pens do without him and I think it will be clear how important he is to the team. Malkin has been stepping up the game but he's not going to make the other players around him as good as Crosby has.

Agreed, i would also go with either Lecavalier because he is having a excellent season so far, and alfredsson is probably playing the best hockey of his career and is carrying the senators.

yea, i know Alfie is having an amazing season, but look as his team compared to Washington.. take em both away and Washington goes through the floor while Ottawa turns into a mediocre team.

That's personally why I didn't include Alfie. He's one of the best in the league but he he went down the team would still be in the hunt.

AO's still on a 10th place team at this point in a division that may get their only playoff representative on a BS rule. Great player, huge part of their team, but the team isn't doing much when you step back and look. They are still a bottom 10 team at this point.

I think it has to be Vinny or Ovie, no other player means more to their team. If Crosby hadn't been injured, then it would be a different argument.

If you went by the intent of the MVP award as in who's the most valuable to their team, it's Ovechkin by a mile. That's not how it works or ends up most of the time, sadly.

Vinny, Kovalchuk and Alfredsson are worthy candidates but you take them off their respective teams and you still have at least one top-tier player. You take away Ovie from the Caps and you have...Kozlov.

I dont know how alfie could get it over Ovie.. Alfie has superstars around him and puts up the same numbers as AO who has now literally no help since Nylander is out. so whether it was to go to the better player, its 50/50, and if its more valuable its clearly AO

Ovechkin. He is carrying his team, he helps sell the nhl, and he has more fun on the ice than almost anyone in the nhl.

Maybe if the mvp was for the most valuable player who will fire a puck at you with 1 second left in a period...then i would give it to Alfredsson,

what about kovalchuk. the thrashers had a terrible start to the season, and he completely turned them around, and now they're in a position to win the division.

I wouldn't say he has completely turned them around but he is having an amazing year.

So if Ovie helps the Caps only 1 pt. back win the SE then he should get the mvp right?

Personally I am a Caps fan so I am biased but no one carries there team more than Ovie.
