Shaq dealt for Marion

Recommended Posts

I'm guessing that other than wanting to dump Marion for some time that Phoenix wanted to get bigger since they lost out on Gasol.

That is the only reason the Suns went out and got "Diesel", to try and rival Gasol and the Lakers.

Shaq is done in my opinion and I can't even stand the NBA. He should take his 4 rings, and go settle his divorce. I don't see him being able to contribute anything to the Suns with his hip and knee injuries every other day.

EDIT: Just saw on ESPNNews that it's in fact a done deal. Shaq to the Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

I personally think this is a waste for the Suns. Even though Marion might not be having the best season, he's still playing better than Shaq and is for most of the time a lot healthier. The Heat definitely win this trade IMO.

wow. thats a horrible deal IMO. Marion and banks for a huge (in size), worthless old man?

The Suns dont have a chance now

If Shaq can get into shape, and this trade rejuvenates his mind and interest to dominate again, watch out... Nash, Bell, Hill, Amare, and Shaq in the same lineup is deadly.

Sure they gave up Marion, but they get a center AND keep Amare and move him back to native position... That is a mean front court.

As has been said - it all depends upon how Shaq reacts.

If he stays hurt and remains lazy - the Suns made a horrid deal and will be hurt by it until Shaq's contract expires.

If he becomes motivated and can get healthy - I can see this working out for the Suns as they have needed a big guy for a while.

I think the Marion/Wade combo is for the better in Miami. Yeah, Wade/Shaq had a good run and won the finals but they desperately needed to shake things up. Good move on their part.

Hopefully the suns can make something of this trade, Nash needs to win the Championship. B)

Worst trade ever. Watching Nash/Barbosa try to run a team in a half court offense will be hilarious. Especially since Amare isn't a good plant himself PF.

Not to mention all the money Shaq is owed.

PF is Amare's natural position. I think he's better there. I think Marion wore out his welcome with the Sun's and wanted big money. I dont think the suns will be incorperating O'Neal as a full time role, letting them run and gun like they are known for. Obvously they'll use him in the half court offense but his playing time is down at like 25 minutes a game or something

I've gotta say, this was a poor trade for Phoenix. First off, they could've probably gotten more in return if they were willing to just give up a draft pick too and secondly, they're going to take a huge salary cap hit, potentially for 3 years. Shaq has been washed up for 2+ years, Miami was very lucky to find anyone willing to take him.

Think of this trade this way, Minnesota was willing to take just about any package built around Marion in return for Garnett.

Exactly.

And I thought the whole reason they didn't get KG was based on dollars, and now they are going to pay Shaq $40 mil for the next two seasons?

Couldn't they have made this same trade for Gasol who fits their offense about a million times better?

I still think the Suns are in a better position to win the title now than they were yesterday just because of the size this gives them, and I never really liked Marion other than from a fantasy standpoint where he is god... but the deal itself is questionable when you think of what else they could have got. I'm kind of excited though, will be sweet to see Shaq go up against Duncan and/or Kobe in the playoffs.

You gotta think Dallas is pushing for J-Kidd now.

The Suns wanted to trade Marion for Garnett, but the T-Wolves demanded Amare. The Suns said they wouldn't trade Amare, only Marion, and the T-wolves said no.

This is a very curious trade, Shaq doesn't fit into there up-tempo offence, and hasn't been able to jump more then a foot off the ground all season. It will be interesting to see what happens.

They dont run and gun all game. Thats impossible for anyone.

They do run a very effective half-court when not in an all out foot race. Nash can skip through the paint anytime he wants and dish it to a wide open shooter or Diesel/STAT if need be. Its quite clear that Kerr doesnt agree with D'Antoni's style. Perhaps they finally realized that the up tempo style is not going to win playoff games.

Shaq is still putting up what? ~14and 8? In only about 28 unhealthy minutes. Sure he isnt the same diesel, but he still is a force down low.
