Chadd

Bad play/night

Recommended Posts

Ok, tonight was just one of "those" nights for me. I was playing fairly well, just missed a couple chances from the blue line, but we didn't have much depth and I was getting tired. Somehow we make it through three periods and get to OT. I end up with the puck on the goal line half way between my net and the corner. I had one guy coming on me pretty hard and the only one of my guys I could see was my d-partner on the other side of the net. Some of you can see where this is going. Rather than bounce it off the boards behind the net, I got cocky and tried to saucer it to my partner. Of course with all the snow on the ice and I fanned on it and the puck ends up flat on one of their guys sticks standing between the hash marks with nobody even remotely close.

It took me a while to get my head out of the oven once I got home (it didn't help as it's electric) and wash off the scent of failure. Ok, let's hear your bonehead plays. Anyone who denies ever making one is a liar or oblivious.

opposing d-man took a shot from the point, I was playing center helping out down low. Well the shot was about crossbar high and not too fast so I decided I'd help out our goalie and stop it out of midair with my stick....Well let's just say I ended up giving that d-man an unofficial assist as I deflected it into our own net. All I can say was that I was glad we won the game rather decidedly because otherwise I would have got a lotttta heat, instead of just decent-natured 'shit' that I ended up getting for my bonehead move.

Two on one, I have the puck, and my center is open to my right, but I decide I might have a better shot if I coasted in a little closer, but then at the last second I decide I will pass, but their D lays down between us, ruining everything. Basically, I look like a puckhog, and we miss a scoring opportunity because of my play reading skills.

The Phaneuf one is the best on the video ^^^^^

State championship, we're winning 2-1, I'm coming out from behind the net (its 5 on 5) and I'm looking up ice the whole way. I see one of my teammates making a hard cut up the middle and I think to myself, hmm breakaway pass time, well I go to step out from behind the net to pass it and I wiff the pass. Lets just say it goes right to their guy coming straight from the bench, right down the slot and he just sniped our goalie, our goalie had absolutely no chance.

They end up catching all the momentum after that and won the game 4-3. I still can't shake the feeling. Probably one of if not the worst hockey moment of my life. State championship my senior year and last year of competitive hockey and still to this day does it feel like I gave the game away.

I came on a little early for a line change, and the puck comes out of the offensive zone. I can't send it back in because the man I came on for hasn't gotten off the ice yet and if I touched it it would have been too many men and we would have gotten a penalty. So I wait until he's off and then try a cross ice pass that gets intercepted and taken down on a breakaway and ends up in a goal.

I've only played league this season so nothing terrible yet.

I did manage to tick off my captain pretty well last week, got the puck stolen while trying to stickhandle, so he yelled at me to shoot the puck next time. Then came in on net from the boards, puck rolled off my stick, he was screaming at me from the bench. Then while chasing the puck behind the net, stick got caught in the net, spearing me pretty hard and knocking it off the post, and by that time I figured I was going back to the 4th line. Luckily I scored on my last shift, but only after missing three wide open nets. I seem to have the worst luck when playing on our "scoring" line.

The last game I played was atrocious. I missed a wide open net on a one-timer, then after my center won a draw back towards me in the offensive zone, I flubbed the puck, then couldn't catch the guy as he raced in on a clear breakaway from the red line in.

I'm totally a faster skater then he was, and should have easily caught him. My feet just kinda got tangled, and couldn't get a good start. As the captain, needless to say I was completely dissapponted in myself. Luckily, I somewhat made up for it with a decent goal later in the game.

In a pick up game I picked up the puck from an opposing d-man at the point and well i take off on a break away well i slow up a little bit and decide to rip a slapper (I'm talking about an Al McInnis type wind up) at the goalie and as I'm winding up on of the guys caught up to me and poke checked it away from me so when i finished my shot there was no puck in front of me needless to say everyone was laughing at me and man did i feel like a turd. I figured I'd take a big slapper cause the goalie was on fire and stopping all the breakaway shots and most of all shots, oh man did that play look pathetic

In a recent game, I was posting up in front of the net quite frequently. My teamates did a great job of dishing the puck to me, I just couldn't hit the net. I missed the net 2 times (one time, the net was WIDE open), scored once and turned it over once due to fumbling a pass. It's not typical from me to do that but I did make up for it defensively. It just sucked

I just come on for a line change and as I skating up the ice our defenseman passes out of our defensive zone...right into the back of my leg.

Of course their forward grabs it and pots it. That shift was all of 5 seconds for me...

i was in a tournament over the summer and we were in the championship. we were up by one with just a few mins left in the game and they had a 2 on 1, so i try to block the pass across and put it right into our own net. I woulda felt so much worse if we lost, but we won in OT

Bantam State Championship, tie game, just over a minute left in the 3rd. I was covering their best player in front of the net. Our goalie covered the puck with his catcher, and I let off of my guy's stick, expecting a whistle. He whacked the catcher and the puck squirted out and across the goal line. Game over. Play to the whistle, dumbass.

Earlier, in the second period, I got a great centering pass and whiffed on an open net. I barely touched the puck with the heel of the blade. It went across the crease to my center, who buried it. Terrible play by me, but I got the A.

Last night, corralled a rebound to the right of the net, just a little off the goal-line. Opposing d-men are coming at me, and the goalie is sliding across and stacking his pads. I have a sliver of net to shoot at, I get the puck up and in the angle, but over the crossbar by a few inches. The puck goes around the glass, and the other team breaks out 3-on-1 and scores.

This season:

Deflected the puck past my own goalie trying to break up a cross-slot pass when I was back-checking. At least twice.

Got unknkowingly tangled up with my own goalie and dragged him out of the crease, leading to an easy score by the other team. I thought I was being hooked...

Past seasons:

Fed opposing players in our slot, for various reasons.

Well, I had a good night last night, but it ended bad.

First play of the game, our littlest kid on the team (and one of the lesser skilled kids) gives me a GREAT saucer pass and I score within the first 20 seconds. Throughout the game, I break up about 5 two-on-ones and laid about 7 big hits. But we're tied 4-4 and I get the puck with 5 seconds left. I whiff the first one so I take a wayyyy off balance shot with three seconds left and I use my stick to stop me from falling and looking like a complete dumbass. So this bitch on my team starts giving me shit about things I did during the game (that he could never have enough skill to do) and calling me profane names (you guys know the ones so I don't really have to repeat them) and I warn him to f-off. He doesn't, so I punch him and we go at it at center ice, before the hand shake. But we have about 5 kids that constantly talk shit to me, so needless to say, I'm leaving these douchebags after this season.

I've had many snafus in my days but the worst was when I thought I was doing well on D and forced the driving forward to the outside and then took the puck off of him. I went to fire the puck behind the net to my D partner and beat my goalie low glove side. Of course I got a lot of crap for that. I made up for it with a goal and an assist but the crap just kept on coming for the rest of the season.

The worst I think I've ever seen is that NHL'er that tried to head fake the open net and missed wide.

The two that come to mind actually kind of make me laugh now.

One play it was a scramble in our defensive zone on the penalty kill, I wound up down low cause one of our D man somehow found himself behind the net by himself. A point shot came and our goalie made the save but fell down getting up. I slide into the crease and stand up to try and block whatever rebound shot is coming thinking our goalie is down and out. Anyway, he gets up, goes to hug the post as the shot is coming and collides with me. We both go down, empty netter =P

he looks around and complains goalie interference and I go ....ummmmmm....hi.

The other one was a man alone in front of the net in the offensive zone, and me behind it with the puck. Two guys challenging me from each side of the net, again, I don't know why both came after me. Or even one given the situation (pp). Anyway, I should have just banked it off the boards to a waiting teammate, or even tried to throw it to the front of the net. Instead I go "hey i can flip this puck over the net and land it right on my teammates stick all alone in front easy as pie!". So I try it, and hit him right in the dome. He stared at me a while and I got the point hahah.

I realize that most of my fuck-ups come from me just trying something fun and absurd once the game is out of reach for either team. Or maybe I just block out the ones that happen when it matters >.<

The most frustrating for me was a night my team lost pretty badly.

My center and I had lined up a play from our Left Winger, center took a shot and the goalie loses his shit and goes down and then I'm staring at this puck spinning around right on the back red line of the crease and the goalie is laying on my stick or a D man is, I honestly don't remember. But there I am just looking at a goal staring me in the face unable to do anything about it. Then when I do break free it's a second too late because the teams D man knocked the net loose and the whistle is blown.

It might have turned the tide and given our team some up lift or it might have just been our 3rd goal of a losing game and nothing else, still frustrating none the less.

The last season I played ( Beer league) I came back to the team after 6 months of recouping from a torn rotator cuff. I was switched from center to right wing. If I play on the wing I prefer the left, I have a right handed shot, and just like shooting from that side better. Anyhow being on the right side, I think I missed 3 open nets that night, and just couldnt get the puck in the net. Man I hate right wing.

Years ago..my first year Junior I was young....simple cross-ice partner pass in my own end...I duffed er....buddy picks it up and puts it home. Game winner. I shattered my stick over the cross-bar. Worst part was, the announcer screwed-up and said I assisted on it..Yes he said that "I" assisted on it. I got benched for a game.
