New Blade for my Shaft

Recommended Posts

Not long ago a got my self a Mission V-hex2 brewer pro-stock shaft and 2 blades as it all cam as a pack from hockey monkey, since one of the blades has already broken im looking at getting a few spares for it.

My problem is this: In the descripition of the retail shaft on Inline warehouse it says "Senior shafts fit Low Kickpoint, short hosel senior blades" since i have only used woodies up until now, I have no idea what low kick point and short hosels are...

Then on Hockey Monkey the retail shaft says "Concave shaft shape for use with low connection tapered blades" oh great, low connection AND tapered, so many terms that I am not used to useing

BUT!

When I orded the shaft/blade pack they had both tapered and standerd shafts as seperate packs, the one I got was standered...

Is there any particular type of blade I should/shouldn't get?

I really am confused... And I feel stupid posting this

Tapered and Short hossel mean the same thing.. the bottom part of the shaft is smaller, and requires a tapered blade. If you get a tapered blade for an un-tapered shaft, the part of the blade that goes into the shaft will be too wide. If you have an un-tapered shaft with a tapered-blade, the part of the blade that goes into the shaft will be too small.

A kick point is basically where the energy goes and releases when flexing your stick when you take a shot.

Ahh if that didn't make sense, sorry. Hockey gm+few beers with teammates+3am= odd state of mind

QFBS

Since I don't know qhat QFBS means, I will say that tapered and short hosel do not mean the same thing. Tapered blades have narrow tenons and fit tapered shafts. Standard blades fit standard shafts, which have the same width throughout the shaft. There exist long hoseled tapered blades, and at least one short hoseled standard blade (ST).

But when the store says: "Senior shafts fit Low Kickpoint, short hosel senior blades," they mean tapered.

Do you know if your shaft is standard or tapered?

Don't pay any attention to descriptions of the retail version, It's a pro-stock shaft - it could be anything under that paintjob.

If they sent you tapered blades, used tapered; if they sent standard, use standard.

Just to chime in and so I don't always come off lumping Warrior/Inno as the only company that does this, my last XXXX shaft (which was sold as being tapered) is actually standard. I don't mind since it's a 122 and has grip, but what I don't get is they had the .620 taper on the shaft and it was still sold as tapered.

The One90 shaft is marketed the same way, even though they take standard blades:

NBH One90

How is it the same? Kickpoint location is engineered through changing the carbon weave and building in a slight taper lower down and probably playing with non-linear flex profiles. It also has a .620 taper but that's not tapered, that's still standard.

I meant that it's also marketed with a .620 taper, but I didn't realize that could be considered non-tapered.

Yeah, my beef was the shaft stating .620 taper (standard) but being sold to me as tapered. Not a huge problem though as I prefer standards more but I was just in need of a tapered at the time.

Since there was never a clear answer, You need a standard blade for your shaft.

So if a blade says it has a .620 taper, it is really just a standard blade and not really tapered at all? A "tapered" blade or shaft as we think of it would be the ones listed at .520 taper?

That's what I gather from NBH's line. I don't use much of their sticks but the tapered/OPS have .520 listed.
