My First Experience With T Blades

Recommended Posts

So I skated on my T Blades for the first time in pick up today. I really liked how they felt...plenty of bite, really confident in my edges. Already found the only advantage, IMO, to regular holders though. Because it was pick up, there was some hacks there. One of the, who couldn't even skate, collided with me and went down when I was mid stride. His runner collided with my T Blade runner on my left skate and shaved two inches off. Couldn't even skate after that. Had to pay 20 bucks for another pair from the pro shop, but key thing is I was back on the ice in 7 minutes :). I didn't want to buy them from the pro shop, because they are a bit pricey but I didn't have a choice today. I ordered 5 pair off Hockey Monkey.

Just bad luck...that would have happened even if I was rocking the Cobras that came on my Grafs and I would have had to get off for a sharpening, which would have run me half that at 10 bucks because I use a hollow other than the one that is normally on the wheel (steep Florida prices). Other than that, they are awesomely light, the glide is phenominal, and I have a lot of confidence in the edges (when they are all there B)). The noise is kind of obnoxious though. I had heard about it before, but never heard it first hand.

Charging extra to dress the stone for a different hollow is just...wrong!

the noise will start to subside eventually...its either i just don't notice it anymore or that after a little wear it goes away, but i think its a combination of both.

^^If only you knew the other practices that beaudin's has done...

^That noise never goes away, a former teammate used them... The only reason why I liked that was that I always knew where he was on the ice.

True, I used them for a year or so and the noise doesn't go away, you can hear every stride and so can your opponents. The element of surprise is gone forever

Luckily, my teammate was/is superfast so the no-look saucer passes worked out well for us. Too bad he wasn't better one-on-one with the goalie.

They have shady buisness practices.

I wouldn't let them touch my skates. Rinkside is the only shop I get sharpenings and I only get them done from Ricky. They dont charge extra for specialty sharpenings either.

Joey at Beaudin's is the only one that I trusted sharpening my skates when I had them, and he's the one that put my T blades on as well and did a great job centering them etc.

Would you recomend purchasing the t-blades, and do they put you on your heels or toes? From what ive learned the rocker location cant be changed. Better glide, and do the steel hold the edges thinkin about getting some since our local sharpener just quit. Nobody to sharpen skates. oh ya are the blades as consistent as they say?

They should be redressing the wheel every 2 or 3 sharpening anyway.

Damn crooks!!

I skate in the same arena as a minor pro team. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have their equipment manager to sharpen my skates.

They put me more on my heels...in comparison to the Cobras that came on my Grafs. You can't change the rocker location, only radius. They do have better glide. I can't comment on the length of time of the edges because I only skated once and someones skate collided with mine shaving two inches off the runner.

shims. I would have driven to O-town to get my skates sharpened and buy gear if I knew about JR at the time... He's a little far at this point.

I WAS on T'blades for almost a year, and about 6 months ago changed back to my trust E Pro's. Typical scenario....my rink is an hour away, and there isn't someone there working at a "shop" as it is a travelling service where the guy comes twice a week and does all of the skates at the time. Playing in multiple arenas.....leaving my skates for 4 days wasn't an option for me. So between that and curiosity I tried them on my 7K's. My initial impressions were similar to Bruins....but what I did not like about them was the "vague" feeling that I got while gliding. While cutting and digging on my edges they were great....but there was always a very uneasy/no feedback feeling while you are not hard on your edges. I switched back to my E Pro's and struck a deal with the rink an hour away that they allow me to go into the locked "equipment room" and sharpen my own skates for $5.

Oh alright because what i really wanted to know was will it affect the pitch of the skates after t-blades are put on. Like having a pair of grafs normally a forward pitch and once t-blades are put on will it be considered a neutral pitch with a natural forward lean? Another question I would like to ask is does it make you feel taller? lighter? A better feeling while gliding? sorry for the questions but, i just want to get a little bit more info on doing a little review/research on t-blades thnx.
