Souray Out For Season

Recommended Posts

This is bad news for Edmonton and possibly makes Montreal look good but TSN reported today that Souray is done for the year after Arthroscopic Surgery on his shoulder. To bad the guys got a whicked shot.

He has barely played since he leaft Montreal, but what a huge loss for Edmonton especially where they have so much money tied up with him.

sucks to be an oiler fan right now, another very tough season to weather, but i did read somewhere that his doctors said with a good rehab this spring/summer he could come back stronger than he has been in the past 5 years. i sure freaking hope so, he's an injury prone player on an injury prone team :(

I don't think Edmonton looking bad for signing him or Montreal looking good for letting him go have anything to do with it.

If he had a shoulder issue going into the year, I'd say yeah...that is a consideration.

But the injury occurred during a fight while he was playing for Edmonton. Who's to say that if he stayed in Montreal...or signed anywhere else that he would've been in the situation to fall the way he did and hurt his shoulder.

As far as him coming back stronger...if his shoulder heals like his wrist did...Holy Crap. His shot should find an extra 4-5 MPH.

im hoping for something along the lines of..."rookie of the year" hahaha albeit henry rowengardener had a different arm injury

 Hope those tendons tighten a little more than normal!

Was this a problem that Souray has had in the past, or was this something that happened this year? Tough to get much Western conference information out here in the East.

He separated it in a fall after a fight earlier this year. Can't recall how he re-injured it. Not aware of shoulders being an issue for Shel in the past.

on another note, we also lost horcoff to the same injury, he went under the knife as well a couple days ago and he's done for the season.

this is just crazy what we've gone through for injuries.

horcoff - out for season with shoulder surgery

souray - played very sparingly all season with a nagging sholder he hurt during a fight, now out for season from surgery

torres - out with knee surgery

moreau - missed most of last year having hurt his shoulder during a fight (grr), came back, took a slapshot off the foot in preseason and missed almost half the season

pisani - missed almost half a season with ulcerative colitis

matt greene - broken ankle early on in the season and missed a few months

hemsky - has been playing the last little while with a hurt wrist that isn't responding to treatment (im on the edge of my seat about this one)

sanderson - his bad back kept him out for quite a while lately

pitkanen has missed quite a few games this season from various injuries as well

....did i miss anyone? i think the oilers lead the league in man-games lost to injury again this year as they did last year... i think?

It hurts when Markov's not feeding you pucks, isn't it? IMO, he is incredibly overrated.

As for the injury, its been a tough season for the Oilers, but when fully healthy they are a fringe team anyways.

I remember Minnesota lost pver 500 games to injury in 2001. And then last year or the year before, L.A. had even more than Minnesota.

Vancouver's D is hurting bad right now. Any game where you dress McIver, Fitzgerald, Weaver, Bourdon, Edler is not good. Who? Yea.

Kings had one season over 500 and the next season was well over 600.

I believe he actually re-injured his shoulder in that fight. His first shoulder injury was on October 7. He was sidelined on and off till early January and re-injured himself on January 29th in that fight. 10 points in 26 games.. not quite as good as his numbers with Montreal ;-)

Stocking up on defense and not forwards wasn't a particularly great idea. They invested a boatload of $$$ in Pitkanen and Souray, and that would've been understandable if they had a few consistent forwards. Horcoff was still developing, Hemsky had been inconsistent etc. Poor work by the GM prior to this season, IMO.

we actually don't have very much tied up with pitkanen at the moment, he's RFA at the end of the season, but i would very much like to see this guy signed long term, he's been impressive for us.

I think what happened with the souray deal, was that klowe was feeling the heat from multiple sources in the off season.

fans wanted new additions to the team, and when big names were getting signed and oilers were left with marginal choices, klowe pretty much had no choice.

the other source of pressure was probably from the group of owners of the oilers. Katz wanted to buy the team and was willing to spend the cap, so the investors group EIG wanted to show that they would spend the cap too, so we had all this money to throw at FA's, even if they werent worth it. So if we would have spent 4 or 5 mil under the cap, the EIG might have been seen as cheap and the fans would want them out in order for Katz to overtake.

Theres a lot of factors involved here, i hope we can pull it together in the next few years here
