Superfeet or Shockdoctor

Recommended Posts

My podiatrist is recommending orthotics, but my insurance company will not pay for them. So I thought I would try Superfeet or shockdoctor inserts. What are the pros and cons of each?

Also, anyone using them in Mission Fuel 100AG's? How do they fit?

TIA

Try searching. There are already lots of helpful replies on this topic. I know because I just ordered the Superfeet after reading all the helpful replies from others.

as mention search first and then research a little on them if you need help people here would gladly help you. I have used superfeet and i have to say it was very solid support for my pronating feet. It only supported to a certain degree and i still had a little slippage issue. I now have orthotics and from time to time i would switch and superfeet seemes to allow me give a better energy transfer.

the shockdoctors are made of foams, which are going to soften up, and lose support over time. they are also extremely thick and i find they take away from the volume of the skate

the superfeet grey are skate specific, have the solid plastic heel cup which will not soften or allow your arch to collapse

id try to superfeet, i wear them now an have had no problems, just give them some time to work, as they are putting your foot in a neutral position all the time

I ordered both grey and black superfeet (blacks are supposed to be for flat feet). I wear vapor xxv's and the greys fit perfectly inside. The black's are a little wider and would fit fine a wider skate, but in the vapors, which run narrow, it took some force to get them to fit. Greys offer some arch support, but not as much as custom orthotics, which I wear in my work shoes. But some is better than none. Black vs grey, I didn't notice any difference in the arch. Back to your topic, shockdoctors doesn't provide the level of support that superfeet does, based on the material used. Superfeet uses sturdier materials.

It's wider - in a lot of skates the Grey wasn't wide enough.

That makes me a bit sad. The size E Grey Superfeet fit extremely well inside of my 9.5D S7s. No cutting was required.

I thought the black was for wide and gray was for regular width - is there any difference in the arch support between the two?

Black is a dress shoe insole. Since it was wider, hockey dealers were carrying it to fit wider skates. It was never marketed as a hockey insole.

Size F gray fit great in my 11.5 E Vectors.

I actually didn't like them that much. My heel didn't lock in as well and I had less volume in the midfoot.

I don't have pro/suppination problems, and I never noticed anything different in feel, just the fit on my heel changed and I was slipping out like an untied sneaker.

One little tip:

If you find that your arch is too long or high for the Superfeet that should fit your skate in length, buy a full size or two up and trim back.

Which is to say, fit the footbed to your arch, NOT the length of your skate.

The only problem you'll encounter with this is that the heel of the footbed may not fit into the heel of the skate.

I probably should be wearing F-size Superfeet, even though going by the labels I should be in a D. I settled for an E to fit the heel in the skate.

not to thread hijack, but on a relevant note, i replaced the stock shock doctors insoles in my synergy 800c's for grey superfeet and have since loved them to death. the problem that i have now is that the superfeet, which are thinner than the shock doctors, are sinking into the pre-cut access holes in the bottom of the boot. this causes my foot to get an odd uncomfortable feeling in the bottom middle of my forefoot.

Does anyone have a solution to this? I noticed that bauer skates come with caps that seal the holes off but what about easton?

If you found a thin pair of insoles to place underneath that might work? Not sure if the regular Easton skate insole is too thick to put underneath the Superfeet. Might your insoles be cut too narrow?

Sounds like superfoot insoles are the way to go. Now if I could just find somewhere to buy them locally, I really don't want to order two different widths to figure out which ones will work for my mission 100ag's. I am wearing the EE width.

Anyone know which width I should buy.

btw, I found the shockdoctors to be very narrow.

I've never used superfeet insoles and am unsure about the sizing of them... Is the grey model wide enough for a vapor? I use a 10.5 D Vapor XXXX, what size superfeet would I need?

I second your tip! By Superfeet specs, I should also be a D (7E RBK) but the Superfeet arch was digging into my heel so I returned them for the E and used the original footbed as a trimming guide.

I also have the Shock Doctors, which luckily fit perfectly according to the label with no additional trimming. The heel width and the arch location ended up being pretty much the same in both.

The Superfeet are more likely to maintain the arch contour with its firm plastic support base. The SD are a bit thicker with vent holes and strategically placed bumps. I don't really notice the "bumps", but some people might not like how they feel. Despite the differences, no real preference between the two for me.

on superfeet, the 7-8 isnt the size of your skates its the arch length. so like you said you should always ahve your arch measured. the biggest thing is to make sure the heel fits in the insole right. the support start there.

for sizing of superfeet, i always go up 1 size, so me for example, wear a size 8 skate, however i dont use the D (size 7-8) superfeet. I go with the E (size 9-10) superfeet because it fits my heel better.

TBL the greys are wide enough for the vapor XXXX. For a size 10.5D i would go with the size F (size 11-12) and trim it down.

Bane, what size are you mission ag's? i got my dad a pair of 9.5E 100 AG's and the E superfeet fit the best
