JR97 2 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Gretzky. And I miss the super pests like Esa Tikkanen and Claude Lemieux. Sean Avery couldn't carry those guys jocks but he's supposed to be the best pest in the league right now.Did you get to see Kenny Linseman play? Best pest of all time...http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/Legend...sp?player=10956I watched the 1980 Stanley Cup Finals game of Philly vs the Islanders. Kenny Linesman was one of the few players that looked like he could have done well in today's game. He was head and shoulders above most of the Flyers and the fastest guy out there. Trudy14 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Theo Fleury. He did everything and he was like 5'4 (despite being listed as 5'6). Up to his last days with the Rangers when he was in and out of rehad he was still amazing almost every single night. The night Messier apporached him to go into rehab for the first time was in the locker room after a game agaisnt the senators that I was at. He was apparantly shitfaced throughout the game but he was by far the best player on the ice. I wish instead of going to the blackhawks he would have just taken a year off to try and get his life back in order so he could maybe make a comeback.I second that one...Theo Fleury is my favorite player of all time. I've sported his no. 14 for almost every team I've played for. He was just so skilled despite his size. I miss my man Theo. I guess his concrete business is doing alright.Platypus- He doesn't play for Belfast anymore. As far as I know he's back in Canada running a family concrete business called Fleury's Concrete Coatings. As far as the sober part...I'm not to sure about that one. mrusse01 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Orr.WISH I was around to see him play, he's my Dad's all-tiem fav. The clips of him you see of him are ridiculous, it looks like everybody is just playing regular hockey, but he is doing something completely different. There is one clip where he is killing a penalty I belive and is standing behind his own net with the puck, and a forechecker standing in front kind of confused what to do. The offensive player decides to chase around one side to try and get him, Orr just wheels out the other side, goes all the way around and stops behind the net again, with the forechecker back in front of the net right where he started. It's ridiculous. If that ever happened to me in a game I'd just leave the ice.
Patrick67 1 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 That move is done constantly by a few players I know, you have to be two players to flush them out.
bill33 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 I miss watching Al Macinnis, this could also go in the other thread "who has the best slapshot" Still probably has the best one. It was great watching people flinch and move when he wound up.Pavel Bure. He was amazing to watch, something exciting always happened.Bret Hull as a player not as an announcer. He sucked as the later. Man I loved watching him shoot, so accurate

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 I got to see Theo Fleury play back in 97. My dad got comp tickets from my uncle, six rows from the glass in the corner. I remember Fleury's very toothless grin, the Lightning won in OT. Most exciting game I ever went to before the stanley cup playoffs in 04.Keep in mind next time you watch a Was or Pitts game, who exactly you're watching. Most teams around the league have at least one superstar that kids 20 years from now will be wishing they got to see them play.

Jordan 13 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Oh yeah, here's one guy that never gets mentioned. I think mostly because he played in LA before there was a lot TV coverage...Marcel Dionne. Simply unbelievable, saw him live several times. Besides that he had a cool nick name: Little Beaver

Simply unbelievable, saw him live several times. Besides that he had a cool nick name: Little BeaverIf you saw him, I guess you saw a lot of Butch Goring, too? I can't believe Goring had seasons where he only had 2 penalty minutes in 80 games and was still a Selke candidate.
Hawk 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 Great Thread. For me there was nothing like it when Bobby Hull picked up the puck and started streaking up rink. The times I was fortunate enough to be there at the game you could sense the whole crowd inhaling and holding their breath. He was fast, strong and had the best slap shot in the game. Goose bumps right now remembering. Its not a coincidence that goalies started wearing masks during his era.Bobby Orr was the Gretsky of his day. Exciting to watch, even for this Blackhawk fan. Have to laugh at the how do you explain Wirtz to a child comment. Still haven't gotten over his letting Hull go the the WHA...not to mention all the players they have let go since. Been tough to be a Blackhawk fan...though there was a brief interlude in the early 80's when Savard, Secord and Larmer lit it up for the Hawks. Been rooting for them all this time...though it hasn't been easy. Sorry for the length of the post. As I said, great thread. Great memories reading everyone's comments. Hoping Toews, Kane, Keith, Sharpe and Lang can bring back some of the magic.

habsfan87 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 hmm...I'd have to say Theodore in his MVP season, Souray in Montreal in his prime, and Thornton now that he's on the west coast.
Hockeyman9621 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 Eric Lindros! Can't believe no one has mentioned him. Absolute dominance in his prime. The guy was a machine physically, and he had a great PPG average over his career. Obviously chalk another up for Pavel Bure... What about Mike Gartner? Amazing speed. Being a Leafs fan I'll add in Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour and Alex Mogilny. Goalie wise... Hasek in his prime, I saw him play once for Ottawa and he stole the game from the Hurricanes. I can't imagine how good he must have been with good groins.

Lordpowell 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2008 Bobby Orr, Cam Neely, Ray Bourque, Denis Savard, Jean Ratelle, Stan Jonathan, Wendel Clark, Eddie Shack and Derek Sanderson.Bobby was the greatest I have ever seen. Cam could check and fight with the best of them, but still had soft hands and could pick any corner. Bourque was magnificent for two decades. Savard and Ratelle had moves that could make you cry. Jonathan and Clark would put the smack down on guys twice their size. And Shack and Turk were the most colorful I have ever watched. After all of the Rangers on the ice went after him, he offered this gem. 'Do you know what the best thing is about fighting five guys at once? Everywhere you swing, you hit someone.'
cxo 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2008 I think the Detroit bench misses him more than I do, but Steve Yzerman for sure. He may be the only reitred player I've ever missed seeing play.
