Oakley versus Itech

Recommended Posts

...and by "effed"...I mean Fogged!

My Oakley fogs up terribly terribly. I am using the AFR spray on it, and it just fogs up a lot. I switched it back to my Itech visor...no fogging at all last game. I'm just using a cheap 4.99 anti fog spray (which is great after spending 15 on a 2oz. bottle of AFR).

Does the AFR coating wear away leaving them susceptible to fogging?

i don't even use afr on my oakley pro straight....just water and even harsh paper towels to wipe it dry, and i don't have any hairline scratches or any fogging whatsoever....

maybe try spacing it a tiny bit farther out from the helmet at the top? maybe it needs a little more venting

Are the cuts and spacing identical? Are you mounting the visor identically?

If anything I think the Itech sits closer to my face...but it's cut a little higher....so maybe breath from my nose is fogging the Oak.

ive had both and itech and an oakley, i treat them both the same way

the only time my oakley fogs up is when i take my helmet off on the bench

but the second i step back on it clears up nicely

I bought a pack of wipes by Sportmate, and they worked great last time I was on the ice (Sunday).

I'm sure there are other brands out there; worth a try.

Yeah...the Oakley fogs on the bench and clears once I'm back on the ice...but the Itech doesn't fog at all...I guess I can chalk it up to the cut.

do you tilt your visor up when youre on the bench?

maybe thats how the sweat rises onto it

No. Like I said...I do nothing different in either helmet. I didn't think the subtle difference in the cut would affect that much, but I guess it does.

It might not be the subtle cut. It could also depend on the plastic. The AFR with Lexan(?) might not be a good combo for you. Check near the screw holes to make sure the cheap-o stuff doesn't cloud the visor and use it to see if it works better.

I've been tempted to go with a visor, but I'd go with the biggest cut I could find to keep protection and I have steam rise off me like crazy.

What 2 visors are they? Either one tinted or treated in any way?

This Oakley:

and this Itech:

No tint/treatments on either. The Oakley looks much wider in that picture than it actually is.

Are you using those 2 helmets with those 2 visors? If so, have someone check the vents in the Vector to make sure wearing it isn't having you block the vents. Might be that the 5000 is just getting better airflow as well as the visor being a smaller cut.

Is the gap bigger or smaller in one of them? Measure the height and the gap from the helmet.

I'd say swap the use of the two (helmets, AFR on the Itech, cheap-o on the Oakley (IF it won't ruin it!)) and see how things go.

I've used the Oakley only on the Vector...and used the Itech on both. Right now the Itech is on the Vector.

Personally, I have an Itech visor as of now and the only thing i do is put shampoo (hair shampoo) on it every once in a while and i have no problems

IIRC, the itech visors are actually manufactured (or, at least use the same technology of) oakley. read the packaging the itech visor came in, and you can find "oakley" in tiny letters.

so I think it's probably the cut.

Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo works best.....but after 2 months with my Itech DX100....I haven't had to use it once for fogging. I simply use the AR spray for cleaning, and I don't have any issues.
