canucks oilers end of games fights

Burrows is a different story. He's an agitator, but I don't think anyone would call him dirty.

When he's your guy he's an agitator, when he's on the other team he's dirty.

I don't think that's a fair statement. I'm trying to look at this objectively. I do think that Cooke is guilty of dirty play, and there are many times that can be pointed out to back this up.

However, instead of just saying Burrows is a dirty player, can you tell me why? I mean are there definitive examples to illustrate it? I'm not saying it isn't possible. I've missed a lot of games this year due to time constraints, so maybe I just haven't seen it.

I try to avoid Canucks games but I've seen him throw a bunch of late/high/from behind hits. Gets more than a little frisky with the stick too.

Gee, he sounds like a good old Canadian style NHL hockey player! what's the problem? A guy has to do what a guy has to do to play in the Show! Anyone here would pay for that role in the league and play for free.

I saw the first period only. The high hard elbow thrown by Greene at the Oiler blueline was classic old time hockey. I thought it was one of the higher levels of energy in a game that I had seen in a long, long time. Its good to see some emotion on the ice. If it's not your cup of tea, there is always tennis.

Who the fuck celebrates an empy-netter? I think a Wing did in one of the Cup clinchers but that'd be about the only exception.

First result upon searching "empty net goal" on youtube.

It's not like it never happens in close, hard-fought games.

It's different when you score and join your teammates after an empty netter, but just standing in front after you score, trying to rub it in, of course a fight is going to break out, especially when your a little bitch like Burrows.

Didn't Korolyuk start a huge brawl because he was hot-dogging after an empty netter in the playoffs a few years ago?

Ned Braden wouldn't do it. ;)

Ned Braden was American, not Canadian. There is a difference.

So you're saying Canadians have no sense of ethics?

That's quite a leap, Bob Beamon. What does ethics have to do with hockey?

The implication was that Canadians would do whatever it takes to play in the NHL, but Americans wouldn't.

No, Ned Braden was an idiot. He put himself before the team since he didn't believe in the violence. Back in those days there was something known as "The Philly flu." It was something the chickenshit players got when the Flyers came to town.

I have no problem with Burrows or anyone else doing whatever it takes to live their dream. They make the sacrifices, they pay the price, they get to reach for the brass ring. That is what makes a pro a professional.

And if that takes crippling someone to get that brass ring, so what.

When you sign on the line........

I have a friend of mine playing defence for the Alaska team in the ECHL. He got his good shoulder destroyed in December when the captain on the opposing team took him out behind his own net with a slew foot and body slam into the end boards. Two days later my friend was named to the starting line-up for the ECHL All-Star Game. Needless to say, he wasn't there. He knew the risks involved and is yes, now paying the price. He played for the USA Hockey 18 Development team, 4 years at BU, and then 2 seasons in the AHL.

There are risks with most any job in life. The difference is we get to watch these guys put their bodies on the line every game. The players are willing to accept those risks. Those that cannot accept the risks don't get the opportunity.

If you get permanently injured/taken out of the game from an accidental incident nobody can complain, but these guys are not signing away their health and well-being in a contract. That's a little over the top.

When you sign on the line........

you assume all the risks involved with the game, including injury, accidental or intentional. I am sorry I wasn't clearer in that.

I have talked to NHL veterans about today's game and players. The lack of respect for one another is amazing to these vets. They knew who their opponents were on any given night and what to expect. There was a level of respect for the game and each other playing at that level. Now, they tell me, it is just not there. We see it every night we watch the games on TV.

I just don't think we should say "oh well" and accept that lack of respect. Those are the guys that are ruining the game, along with the GMs that draft them, the coaches that play them and the league that refuses to suspend them for their actions.

We all agree that accidents happen and players have to deal with that. This is more about the guys who actively try to injure players on a nightly basis.

Burrows is such a tool. The good ole' head back looking at the rafters with your arms up for more than a second, after an empty netter where he tapped a puck floating around the crease in, followed up by a manly one handed slash.

What class

Staois gave him a wicked two hander as he scored it too.

I didn't even see that. I just got home and turned it on as that play happened, and have only seen highlights that showed Stoll push Burrows and Burrows slash him

Big two hander than started around his head and came down across Burrows hands.

Hm, still doesn't change my oppinion that Burrows is a tool for celebrating it and then the one handed slash.

Staois is too old and overrated anyways.
