Skinny people unite!

Recommended Posts

I'm 5"11"

I don't LET people push me around...

I work on core exercises...

I dig my skates and hunker down.

I stand my ground.

If a guy tries to throw his weight around because he's bigger...

I go lower.

Size does matter, but not as much as you would think.

I'm 6' 3" 235lb. (ok, 240) and I went in to the corner with this little guy last week. He was a tough little guy and gave me all I wanted in the corner.

He was quick, so he got to the corner quicker than I was anticipating and his balance was good so he wasn't that easy to knock off the puck. Had we gotten to the puck at the same time, things might have been different, but last week he was able to move the puck along.

So, if you are small, your positioning, balance, and speed are the key to working in the corners. You just can't get away with pushing people around like a bigger guy might.

Just played a game tonight, and remember the get down in your skates and hunker down rule. It allowed me to move a guy who outweighed me by 100 lbs. BTW, I just ate 1500 calories after playing, I'm about 145 now and desperately want to gain 10 lbs, for self preservation if nothing else.

Throw in a protein shake mixed with milk when you wake up and before bed.....with adequate lifting and proper nutrition you could pack on muscle relatively quick

As a smallish individual, I think the most important part of a corner scrum is keeping yourself aware of the flying elbow.

since when is 6" smallish?

Well, someone who is 6 inches is kinda small. :P

Unfortunately, because of some gall bladder problems previously, protein shakes are a big no-go... I'm just trying to eat 3 servings of meat a day.

A diet heavily based on Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds worked wonders for me!! I win a lot more battles in the corner and in front.

see.. i eat chipotle (sometimes 3 times a day.. lol), burgers/fries pretty much regularly.. and i still stay the same weight.

fuckin' metabolism! ugh.

5'7 135ish.. i wanna gain at least 10 pounds and build up more muscle. i think anything over 145ish-150.. would make me look a little too bulky.

i know kids who are like 5'6 and 160.. and it's not a good look.. they just look really unproportional and really out of place.. it's like seeing a guy who's over 6'1 who weighs no more than 140ish.. it just looks really odd.

well eat a ton of eggs then, your farts will smell but you can get a lot of protein that way too to help

If you want to really bulk up, then drink about 6 to 20 beers per night until you turn 30...

Trust me, it'll be there.

Why concern yourself with the idea of "bulking up"?

Does it really do you any good?

If you can play the puck, read your opponents, stand your ground, bend your knees and out-think others...

than you've got it made!

I'm finally above 200 el bees. I will now shun the rest of skinny nation.

You hit the 200 lb. mark? Now you must go join the fat people thread! <_<

why the heck do I weigh so much? I am 5'10, 180lbs...but I am not large at all. I've always wondered where all my weight comes from. I weigh more than some people who are larger/taller than me. Bone density or something?

It may be bone weight, true. However, since you play a lot of hockey (or so I think) it's possible that your trunk and core muscles are pretty heavy and built, even if you don't see that popping out. I bet you're a fast skater too.

Could you atleast loan me a few lbs for this season? Just 5 or 10, but pure muscle only please...

I am unhealthily lean but I can't spare a pound. This is all stretched out over a tall drink of water.

you are probably thicker than most people too....muscle ways more than fat so you might not necessarily be ripped or look huge but you are probably quite strong if i could guess?

I am a pretty fast skater. As for being strong, I don't really think that I am.
