Cost to change holders?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, I couldn't find it. How much does a shop charge to put new holders on skates? I've got Graf 503s that I wanna put new holders on (Pitch probably, maybe custom+). I'm just wondering how much this kind of operation costs. I know every shop is different so ballparkin' it is fine with me. Thanks boys.

$50 or so plus the cost of holders.

Usually $125 or so seems to be the norm.

I saw a couple MN Wild game-worn skates tonight..Both had Custom Plus holders on them..One pair was Mikko Koivu's CCM Tacks from last year and a pair of RBK skates..Both with the Custom Plus holders. I've also seen a One90 with the Custom Plus holder as well.

Jesus, people around here bitched when I charged $30

Ha Ha.. depends on where you live, where you bought the holders and where you're having them swapped at.

More info is a good thing. :D

It's hard to give you some sembelance of a quote without any relevant info.

I haven't checked my lhs to see what they have in the holder department (b/c it's 3 a.m.) but let's say for worst case scenario I bought the holders online, I live in Cincinnati, OH and I'm having them swapped at the rink where I play beer league.

$100+ is reasonable for the purchase and installation of new holders.

What will it cost you to buy new LS2s?

Not sure but I'm not really interested in them anymore. I started a topic a while back asking which holders/steel people preferred and got some pretty bad reviews on LS2 and some raves on custom+. Since custom+ are cheaper (at least on the sites i've checked) I figured I'd just go with them.

Just a matter of preference I guess. The Custom Plus is "softer" apparently.

i believe they are also 'slightly' lees pitched toward the front of the foot

used both (C+ on Vapor VII's / LS2 on my XXV's) and can't tell a difference

just spoke to my lhs and they said they'll do the install for $20 for the pair whether I buy the holders at the shop or not. Compared to some of the prices on here that sounds like a steal. thanks for all the input.

While we're on the topic, does anyone happen to know the difference in pitch (if any) between tuuk ls2, custom+, and the easton razr bladz?

Yea I'm interested in this as well. Coming from Easton to the Grafs I noticed a significant difference. Seems like the Cobras only touch the ice on the front couple of inches. When I lean back on them even a little it's chaos.

the ls2 is 3mm higher in the heel than the custom+, and i personally find the razr blades to be a very neutral pitched holder

LS2 is neutral, and I believe you're tight about the razr. The custom+ will put you more on your heels than either.

I believe that's what your were saying but it could be taken another way.

I believe the Easton boot is slightly forward pitched, and I KNOW that the bauer boot puts your more on your heels than say a RBK/CCM.

Depends what your shop charges, but the store I work at is like $50-$60 for the holders then like $20+ per steel. So with taxes probably around $100-$120

i got confused

if a holder is more neutral, does that make it easier to get a good knee bend?

i always thought that ls2 was pitched forward more than the custom+

I just went from the Cobras to LS2 and the more neutral pitch is like night and day. I feel more solid in my stance and pivoting has improved by leaps and bounds well worth the $98 dropped at the LHS

LS2 is pitched more forward than custom+ but LS2 is neutral. The Custom+ is lower in the heel.

I would think a combination that puts you on your heels will make you bend your knees more but it's all dependant on the skater.

I'm really glad to hear that. These Cobras are killing me right now.

And Schrempsky (sp?): Yes the Cobras put you on your toes more than any other holder I've ever used or heard of.
