New shinguards in need

Recommended Posts

Seems like the NBH and RBK/Jofas are unanimous.

Is anyone using Itech shins? I'm also in the market for some new shinguards and I have like 10 year old Itechs that I love. Curious to see if they still make a good product or if the two aforementioned styles are the way to go.

Just my two cents...check out the CCM Vector 10.0 shins. I picked them up on closeout online and there the greatest shins I've ever used. Super light and comfortable, worth a look.

I have the 6k's I think any rbk/jofa are great shins and elbows, they have removable calf protection which is very nice, and are very wide at the bottom if you back tuck your socks and wear your shins over your tounges.

6ks with "shin tights" stay really snug on your leg and dont slip. Almost a seamless feel

Their attandance to me isnt such that they make me beleive that they are in the need of the money, and 2x price as online doesnt sound to me as a good deal...

In that case, while you're in the shop with your skates trying on shin pads... Why dont you get a sharpening and leave the guy a tip? You still save the money on your shins but you help the guy out at the same time. Just a thought.

I play D so i look for protection. This past season I used the mission fuel 110. Playing Midget18AA i took direct hits from slapshots and could barely feel a thing. I'm not really a fan of mission but their shin pads have gone above and beyond my expectations

I'd do a sharpening, but most of the shops here dont have sharpeners. And mostly im angry on them because when i went into the store to look for new pants, they didnt have the top model, but they had piles of high-end sticks and i was told that i can wait until they make the next order in spring if i want the pants.... Nevermind, i hope next week i will have my 9ks already :)

I've just bought the Itech 955 (@69$ on line). I've played only one game for the moment with them but they look great, not too bulky. So I think Itech can be a also good choice...

Question, before these I had a pair of Delta (model MSG 550)I bought 10 years ago in Montreal. Someone knows this brand, can tell me something about it?

Cheers from Switzerland

I have the RBK 4k Shins, Elbows and shoulder pads. As far as durability, comfort and protection I would put them right up there with my older Nike V-10 equipment, and it cost about half what the Nike stuff cost. The 4k Shin guards also havea suspension system in them, which keeps your shin away from the main shell from impact, pretty novel idea. Playing forward I dont block alot of shots, so I cant comment on that yet.

i didnt even notice your location

perhaps im just unaware as to how lucky i am when it comes to prices in Canada

You are very lucky then... stuff here in Edmonton costs quite a bit more than online prices - I've seen a 60% premium on protectives (not the stuff on clearance online either)

I've been using the Itech 955 Elites for quite awhile now and they are the best I have ever used. Comfy, ergonomic, and just the right amount of padding.. Not the lightest out there but definitely pro-grade. I am a shot blocking D-Man and have really come to trust these pads. I already got a second pair for use after the first breaks down!

Everything is done, i just ordered 9ks from hockeymonkey with some other stuff too, so i just have to be patient now. :) Besides i was looking at the local store, that they had a good deal on pants and now i wear 50" Easton Extreme, and i cant make the descision S5 or S9, the last one looks coller, but does it have so many extras so i pay 50$ more? Thanks

What are the shin tights? Do you wear them under your hockey socks or they are some speacial kind of socks?

Thanks.

If you want a lot of protection get the S9 pants. In my opinion the S5 pant gives you plenty of protection and is a bit lighter but it's not a pro spec pant. The S9 padding gives you far more substantial padding hence it is slightly heavier because its a pro pant. I'd use the S5's up to about Bantam level if you play organized hockey but any higher I'd go with the S9's.

I know how you feel ive had the same pair of Easton Slingtecs for 5 years and even though they are way to small I don't have any cracks in them and i block a lot of shots.

Easton S-9's are a pretty decent shin pad as well. Not as heavy duty as RBk shins but I haven't heard of any major problems with them and they are a slimmer fit. Only problem is they are a bit on the expensive side.
