Stitches

Recommended Posts

Just recieved 8 stitches on my chin last night from diving to get a puck in roller hockey.

Just making the transition from ice to roller and forgot that when you dive in roller, you don't slide like on ice!...haha...smacked my chin on the tiles, but i made the play!!

Anyone else have incidents rotating between ice and roller and vice-versa?

Loose puck in front of the crease. Mad scramble between 4 players and 1 goalie. My helmet gets knocked off, inadvertent (so they say) high stick to my face, eyebrow pops, and needed 4 stitches to close the gash. I used to play alternating days ice and inline thrice a week for inline, twice for ice.

Checked a forechecker into the corner in our zone, we both fell, he stepped on my wrist while getting up, 12 stitches vertically down my wrist right below where my palm ends. Scary moment.

No stitches but, I was covering my point man on a PK. He got the puck and I "slid" to stack my legs to blcok the shot. Ended up rolling with my back to the shot and sure enough he let's a ripper go and it nailed me right in the butt. felt a little violated. As I rolled over to find the puck I rolled right under the guy who just shot it, while the puck bounces about 2 feet over my head. I see hm swatting his stick toward my head to hit the puck out of harms way and i protect myself from his stick but not from his foot coming right to my face. He steps on my face and luckily did not put all his weight on his step. From the initial step I hear a snap inside my own head. it's my nose breaking. then when he realizes he is about to crush my skull he falls then I hear another snap inside my head as the motion of his fall cause his skate to hit my nose again and snaps my nose again.

As it turns out the second snap was the "breaking of my nose back into a somewhat correct shape. I still have a nose the curls to from right to left like a roller coaster but definitly made the rest of the game a little more difficult with toilet paper shoved up there to try and keep it in place and stop the bleeding. Overall it could have been much worse. now I try and stay away from diving.

Took a stick under the visor back in the day. Stick came up, didn't even have a notion of it coming and I went down like a sack of bricks. Ran my tongue over my teeth, those are fine. Figure it's my nose and that's fine. Try to open my eyes and it's stinging with blood in it. I roll over when the coach gets over and hear one of my friends give the ever-comforting "oh shit" gasp. A plastic surgeon and 130+ stitches later and I was right as rain.

Freaking hate that one. Had it on numerous occasions where the situation was not bad at all, but that caused me to freak out.

A few weeks ago however I stepped on my inlines for the first in a while (outdoor concrete rink by the way) and I was in a race for the puck chilling at the opposite blue line. A defender closed me off so I lifted his stick as he over skated the puck....then I immediately began to try a snow plow and flipped about 6 times. Big whoops!

No one got hurt aside from my feelings but I did forget in roller there is no offsides... So I stole a pass in my own end, right above the face off circles, saw a teammate down near the top face off dots in the other team's end, had a clear look at him, but didn't pass it to him because he was "offsides." When we got back to the bench my friend was like "wtf happened, I was totally open?!?!" I said, "yeah but you were offsides by like 10 feet!" Then he looked at me and said, "yeah, but did you notice the wheels on the bottom of your feet?" I felt kinda dumb for a few minutes after that. haha

On a side note though, I did get hit in the nose with a stick before on someone's follow through. I had 10 stitches the next day...

From my last injury in roller I learned one important thing. Blood is much easier to clean up, that would have sucked to clean up that much blood on ice. Not that I was cleaning up, I was busy bleeding on myself. Damn puck.

Ashton: How'd you do that?

I've never had stitches or any broken bones. A few sprained wrists (one bad) and one badly sprained ankle.

*knock on wood*

Edit for me being to tired to type.

I got more than a few "oh shits" on this one.

OH MY GOD.

I'm not sure how I would react if this happened to me, I would surely puke and pass out.

I can take blood, I can take gore, but... stuff like that just gets at me.

Luckily, the worst injury I've ever had was a broken finger or a severely bruised tailbone. knock on wood.

It was on a kickoff in football, dove in on the pile, and only being a scrawny reciever, I came out with that. I didn't notice it until I walked back to the huddle though, then someone goes "holy shit!" and points at my arm. I'm in shock apparently so it didn't even really hurt, walk up to coach and say "I think I broke my arm".
