Trevor Linden Tribute

Recommended Posts

They were cheering Trevor pretty hard all night long in Vancouver anticipating that he will retire at the end of the season. At the beginning of the 3rd they had a really big Standing "O" going and the Flames stepped back from the faceoff circle to let it last a little longer for Trevor and all the players from both teams were banging their sticks on the boards.

As the game ended and the Canucks were all hugging him, Jarome and the Flames went out on the ice to shake his hand as well. The Flames players that had left the bench to the room came back out as well.

Pretty awesome & classy move by the Flames.

BTW...He didn't have a point, but HNIC picked him as #1 Star so he could have a reason for ANOTHER curtain call.

Yeah, that was really nice to see.

I grew up idolizing Linden. This is like the end of an era in my life. It feels weird.

Too bad he couldn't net his last Vancouver goal tonight. He keeps saying he doesn't know what the future holds yet, so I'm not too sure hes 100% gone. But still, hes been a rock for the Canucks his entire career.

I don't think he'd play for another team, so the only question is whether he wants to retire into his job with the PA, or whether he wants to skate a little more.

during the handshake with the flames, when linden was talking to iggy the mic picked up him saying that iggy is the best player in the game. Afterwards during the iggy interview the person asked him what they talked about and iggy said it was private.

I have mixed feelings about the whole ceremony and all that - since he hasn't actually announced that he's retiring, it strikes me kind of like the Canucks are saying "Okay Trevor, thanks a lot... BYE!" If he'd said he was retiring, I'd be fine with it, but to me it looks more like they're pushing him out the door.

You make a good point, viking. But, I think maybe its good they kind of send the hint out and hopefully he takes it. He's been scratched 23? times this season... it'd only going to get worse... then what if they waive him mid season ( like andreychuk a few years back with tampa ) it'll be a horrible PR move.

Regardless of whether or not the Canuck's are forcing him out, or if he is retiring, that was a class A move by the Flame's and a great tribute by everyone in GM Place that night.

I don't think there's anyone on the Canucks that deserves to be an NHL captain.

Naslund? No.

Linden? Yes.

Only guy that comes to mind is Mitchell.

At 2:13 of that YT vid...Naslund looks very emotional...I wonder if that is more for Linden...or because he knows he won't be back next year.

Does Linden have a new gig with the PA? I thought he stepped out of the PA after the lockout and Saskin debacles.

Great stuff, I was hoping eventually there would be a video up on the net.

Class acts all around. All the thoughts of the things ones accomplished over a career in the NHL and remembering what all it took to get there, that has to be one of the greatest but hardest feelings hearing the crowd send you out like that knowing you'll never suit up in the game you grew up eating, breathing, and sleeping but most important loving more than anything ever again.

I didn't get to see a lot of Trevor Linden, but the class act that he is, you can't help but wish the guy the best of luck and nothing but the best out of hockey.

fair to say that he teared up not because he didn't want to come back but because the fans and the canucks as a whole don't want him back.

Given what's available this summer, I'd want Naslund back for 3-4 mil.

I think his 25 goals in Vigneault's system is pretty decent.
