General fit for skates

Recommended Posts

Generally, which skates fit more narrow feet, and which fit wider feet? I'm looking for some new skates and I want a good idea of what I want to try on before I go there. I'm looking at more higher end skates than lower end, if that helps.

EDIT: I searched it, and I don't want to look through 37 pages of results and the (possibly) not finding what I want.

Laziness gets you nowhere in hockey. Or life, for that matter.

An answer would be nice...

Alright, fine, since people want to be an ass about a harmless question, close the thread.

Excuse the less tolerant. You have to understand that the same question gets asked at least 3 times a week...more frequently from about late July to the beginning of the season. The reason there were 37 pages of responses is for that very reason.

That said...the best advice is that "generalities" are almost prejudicial because they predispose you to looking at a limited number or brand of skates...when it is in your best interest to be open minded and try on just about anything you can. Hey, think about it: it's your foot, so who are we to limit your choices? Take my foot for example. Many have said the One95 is for a more voluminous foot...fitting most like the Bauer 8090 which was as wide as a 450 pound woman's...you get the point. My foot is shaped like a reverse triangle: real narrow heel with my foot flaring out at the toes. I tried it on and it felt great. After baking...perfect. But your foot is different from mine, so why would you care about how it feels for me?

If you read through a few of the search responses...the best advice will always lead to trying on as much as possible. So, the better question to ask for you would be: "what are the best LHS in my area"? A good store with good personnel will be able to provide you with the most information...and hopefully the widest selection of boots to try on. We can certainly be of more help steering you in that direction, so you don't have to read the many useless responses based on someone's foot that is shaped nothing like yours.

Hope this helps clarify the rather rash responses. We all can get pretty sick of hearing the same question over and over.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just go in and try everything on. The LHS should be very helpful considering the amount of money you will spend if you are looking at the top end stuff. I guess one side note is that find the best boot that fits generally because it will fit a lot better after baking. From looking at the one95 threads, it sounds like they are really uncomfortable before baking but afterwards are amazing. The "hot spots" will tend to go away after baking.
