Heard from a decent source that the Toronto Marlies are having their equipment sale this weekend. Not sure of the particulars...just a possible heads up for folks in the Toronto area. I'll try to get more details today.

Looks as though the Islanders are "reopening" the pro shop at Iceworks on saturday to be included in the festivities will be a tent event equipment blow out sale. Says NYI players sticks will be $75. The e-mail I received says there are other suprises as well as anyone who makes a purchase is going to get a free gift.

Sometimes you can find a new pair of skates from a player that was traded or signed w/ another team.

But usually a player will take skates with them. They're not like helmets or gloves which are team colored...

Players will probably have more than one pair. At the Canucks sales I've seen used Sedin skates, really beat up ones and occasionally a pair with the boot and holder separate still in the original box.

Alot of rightys though $75 each.............I picked up last 10K lefty

Smelly gloves $50 each pair.......17" 18" jofa shins were good but I aint that tall

The worst were $80 beatup equip bags and $60 pro practice jerseys

For anybody in the Halifax area the Halifax Mooseheads will be having an equipment sale April 5th at 10:30am here's the details - http://www.halifaxmooseheads.ca/default.as...amp;search=1832

There won't be any stick's at the sale as far as I know atleast not from this season seeing as we have given all of the players their sticks and sent the rest back to Reebok/CCM.

No news yet. Last time I inquired, the guy who handles sales for the Foundation said there were no plans for a sale this year. After the Calder Cup year...it was in the offseason. They didn't make he playoffs last year...maybe that is why the sale was earlier. They've made it this year...if I hear anything I will pass it along.

For all those looking forward to the Canucks Equipment sale, I hear it's going to be disappointing this year. Game Day Auctions, a third party company, that runs the silent auctions at Canuck home games has purchased the exclusive right to selling the equipment this year and next.

I can't say who my source is specifically but he IS a Game Day employee. The auction company has purchased $50, 000 worth of gloves, sticks, helmets and skates which also includes the exclusive rights to sell the equipment. They've only sold about $10, 000 worth of gear (so they are $40, 000 in the shitter right now.) The gear is exactly the same you'd find at the equipment sale, minus the company's "authenticity sticker." The only difference is the highly inflated price. ex. $75 for a used stick or gloves at equipment sale vs $350 starting bid at the auction.

As a result there won't be much selection of gear at the upcoming sale this season, if they even have one at all.

^^^That is utter and complete bullshit.

Some things I have like about Acquilini acquiring the Nucks, some things I don't.

The Canucks should do this only if the proceeds are going to Canuck Place (Where the proceeds used to go)

This stuff should be made available to the guys and kids that love and play this game, not be made available to rich and famous to hang on the wall as memorabilia.

disgusted.

Typical Slumlord type ownership, whore yourself out for the highest dollar. :

I don't think it has anything to do with Aquilini since I'm sure Game Day has been doing the silent auctions before he bought the team.

The person I talked to with the auction company keeps reassuring me it's "supply and demand" and eventually people will start buying the game used equipment. Well it's been almost one season and they've got -$40,000 to show for it. Nobody except for serious collectors are going to pay $275+ for a stick that is used and doesn't come with a warranty. Even the Canucks were selling brand new pro stocks during Christmas for $165 and nobody bit, they don't even bother putting them out anymore.

The only way to get the auction company to not attempt something like this in the future is to boycott them. Don't buy their game used gear but most of all don't buy their pictures, where they make higher margins on.

But as a business point of view, if you're Aquilini you'd let the auction continue to sell. Renting out the space instead of letting it sit vacant multiplied by 41 home games a year can bring in a decent revenue. It just sucks for us guys wanting a good deal on gear. Even though the fans want the team to benefit charities over helping the rich get richer, at the end of the day the team is a business and they have to do what they have to do to bring in the money.

If you had to blame anybody it would be Todd Brunel, the owner of Game Day. He's the one charging the outrageous prices like $1016 for two guests to meet and greet with Trevor Linden. Thanks Todd, I met Trevor for free on Saturday.

This game is a business first; making money is a priority, the hockey and everything else is 2nd

The Canucks, and specifically GM Place make Mountains of dollars, not spending up to the cap this and last year, and raising Seasons Ticket Prices...

$50k for rights to game used gear isn't even close to half a drop in a swimming pool!

When I was 12 or 13 I went to the Canucks sale at the Centre Ice Club at the Colliseum.

It was awesome, bought some Cliff Ronning Sticks, a Chritian Ruutu bucket, and some socks...

it was great!

Then as the years went by I noticed kids like me and other guys were getting pushed out by the Memorabilia whores...guys hoarding stuff, to hock on Ebay for profit.

That is certainly not how I would run my business, and not how ol Mr. Griffiths would have liked it (either of them)

Well, I suppose it's safe to say, but all Tampa Bay Lightning prostock equipment runs through me. Available year-round, no minimums. Email is jboucicaut@tampabaylightning.com, we have an inventory list we keep current daily.

Trust me, anywhere these guys can make or save money, they will. If they make more doing it with this company, they will continue. 50k may not be much, but that is someones salary for the year in full.
