Grip damaging gloves?

Recommended Posts

So ive been waiting for my LHS to get the S17's in stock for two months. I call them and they said they got them in a week ago but they all had defects and were breaking left and right so it would be another month, unbelievable. My question is though now that I have more time to think about it is will getting a stick with grip wear my gloves out faster? Im not familiar with Eastons grip and Im not even sure if I should get a grip stick. Will having a grip stick really decreases my ability to stickhandle? I just got a pair of Eagle X72 with the msh2 stuff or whatever and some overlay of msh1 or vise versa whatever it is. Thanks

The grip on the latest Easton sticks has a very minimal effect on palms in comparison to say tape. In saying that Im sure if averaged out grip sticks would decrease your palm durability, but only by a small amount.

I currently have the worst palms (durability wise) made from digital. The air resistence received from skating around the rink causes them to get holes!

What are you lightning fast and then use your hands for air brakes? I guess then I have to decide to get grip or no grip, I know it sounds like such a dumb problem, but I really have no idea if I should get it or not. My slap shots are always floppy if you know what I mean, perhaps it could be that I am just not holding it strong enough?

Did your LHS get different S17's than other stores? That's very odd that they are breaking left and right. I can't recall many of the S-17's we sold breaking "left and right". Curious, exactly how many sticks did they sell in the week they had them and how many broke in that 1 week? Did they have to send all the sticks back to easton because they were defective?

Im not sure they just said they all had defects and kept breaking so they had to ship them all back. What a pain in the ass for customers let alone the store.

Haha, I wish. No the Digi palms are that fagile I almost get holes from just skating around in them. Little though friction from tape and grip etc. The only issue is they are pro stock, I love them and its a b!tch to get repalms done here.

Any grip would wear out your palms faster than if you got a stick with no grip.

Digi palms are one of the thinnest and they're pretty grippy. Couple that with grip sticks and your hands will never move!

I had some Vector Pro gloves with digital palms...trying to use them with grip sticks, I couldn't move my hands at all. Hell, even Polarfibre didn't wear down the gloves too much. Worked great with slick sticks though. The grip didn't really do much to the gloves but Powerflex grip tape wore through them very fast.

The only S17's that had problems with breaking were the JR 50 Flex editions... When they made the stick they didnt bring the kevlar weave all the way down the shaft into the blade like they do on the INT and SR sticks. This was causing every stick to break in the same exact spot, right where the shaft turns into the blade, a little below what most people would call the fuse point. I believe all the JR's they had left in stock were pulled off the shelves and they began to redesign or fix the flaw in them.

I had a hole begin to develop in my top hand glove, switched from cloth tape to a Tacki-mac and have skated 20 hours with out the hole getting worse. That does not help the bottom hand wearing though.

I was actually thinking of putting electric tape on my buttend knob.

I hold my hand on the side and the top, instead of just the side, of the knob (have a hard time explaining it, but most of you probably know what I mean...)

My top hand always wears out crazy fast, so thought this might be worth a shot.

Tried and initialy liked Tacki-macs but because of my hand posture the top of the double sided tape always loosened.

Most manufacturers jr sticks are not made like the sr's. Most of the jr's are pure fibreglass, no kevlar or carbon in the shaft, only painted to look like the sr model. And yes the s17 jr is made the same way. I wouldn't call it a defect. Odd that no one from easton called me to have me send back all my "defective" S-17 jrs.

I switched from Powerflex to white tape with baby powder. After I tape it up, it's still pretty sticky, so I rub a handful of baby powder all over the taped part. I do this after every time I play, and usually after half a dozen skates it doesn't get sticky again with use.

The Vector Pro glove had a huge hole in the palm, but when I did the above tape job, I used it another 15-20 times without ANY wear. So I'd recommend that.

I tried that "tape" aka goo that came with it and was displeased. I now stick them on with a squirt of hairspray, and have been very pleased. I also use hairspray for bike grips so I am confident with the hold. Aquanet is my brand of choice.

It was always such a pain to get those things on that I didn't bother. Even on my intermediate sticks, it took 20 minutes of pulling and stretching, and then they'd rip on me.
