Nike Bauer ONE95 Fit Query

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've spent the last few weeks reading through all the various threads I thought were relevant and I'm still not 100% certain about a few things regarding skate fitting, particularly with the new ONE95 skates, so I was hoping that you guys could help as you seem to have a lot of knowledge here (and access to these skates).

I recently bought a pair of ONE95 skates in a size 7.5D. I love the skate but I'm not entirely convinced I've got the sizing just right so I hope I can get some help as I have absolutely no access to the ONE95's apart from mail order from the US/Canada.

1. The length seems okay (although my toe doesn't touch the toe cap, I can see a small gap (approx 2-3mm) between the imprint of my big toe and the end of the footbed. I had a pair of Vapor XXXX's prior to this and my toe touched the end of the toecap initially, and as I broke them in I found I gained a little length which brought my big toe back from the toecap slightly. Would this be the same with the ONE95's, and if so, should I go with a size 7.0 rather than 7.5?

2. I have absolutely no clue about skate widths. My ONE95's are a D width currently, and I'm not sure if I should maybe drop down to a C width. The reason I'm thinking this is because when I put the skates on, I have to pull REALLY, REALLY hard on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd eyelets in order to get a 'tight' fit around my forefoot, and after the boots have warmed up slightly once I've skated in them a little, I can wiggle and 'fan out' my toes - It doesn't feel like the boot's wrapped as well around my forefoot as it is around my heel/ankle etc. Should my forefoot be pretty snug from the start, does the fact I have to pull really hard on the first 3 eyelets mean that they're perhaps too wide? How do I know whether to go for C or D width?

I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me, I've been trying to find all this out for a long time now and some answers would really help before I place a new order.

Thanks :)

if you baked and sharpened them i doubt you can return them.

I'm not planning on returning them, there's a few people who've offered to buy the 7.5D skates from me, so I'd just be placing an order for a more suitable size to replace them :)

Why did you buy them if your toe wasn't at least feathering the toe cap?

I have no access to ONE95 skates in this country, so I had to take a guess and hope that they fit similar to the Vapor XXXX skates

Mea culpa. I glossed over that.

I think you will want to go down a size. For new skates, I've preferred to have my toes right up against the cap because after breaking-in, they'll pull back a degree depending on the type of skate.

I wouldn't trust my opinion on width, but from what you're describing, you'll want a C. Consensus from most posts here is that the One95 is a wider skate, at least wider than the One90.

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated! I think I'll go with size 7.0 then :)

I'm tempted to go with the C-Width, but I just want to hold off to see if anyone else has any advice before I place my new order.

My foots the same shape as yours. I was sized in a 9.5 EE XXXX skate, only to find out that im probably narrower then a C and i should be wearing a 9 or even a 8.75. I know your gonna wonder why, well my Synergies broke, the whole toe cap flew off, if i can ill get some picks, and i needed skates ASAP, so i went in, the brod sized me into something i knew wasn't right, but spurt of the moment said no, so i bought them and I've baked them twice now, to see if they can go narrower then what they are, but im killing the boot right now.

By all means size yourself down some. From the issue you have described I would go to a 7 C. The one95 D width is actually a E last as the one95 EE is a EEE last (as is all of the Supreme series widths). I can wear very comfortably a 6C toes touching the front ( not jamming )As the boot wears in your toes should just release slightly from the front as you flex forward. Though however every skater has a personal preferance to how tight they like their toe box to be. Anyway I hope this helps Eire go Brach!

If i'm not mistaken unless you order custom, a "D" width is the best you can get!

Nathan mate the skates you have just need to be used a bit more to help break them in, I wouldnt be rushing out to get another pair just yet.

Although thermal fitting initally starts the break in process you will still need to wear your skates quite a bit before you can match the fit of a pair of skates that have been well worn like your Vapor XXXX's. I am having similar problems with my new Vapor XXXX's compared to the XXX's.

The breakdown of the skate with use will allow you to tighten them a bit more giving you a better fit, and lock your foot a bit tighter. With the level of hockey your playing, you may not have chosen the most suitable skates.

As you know the one95 skates are very rigid and they arn't going to be the easiest to break in without them being used heavily. Persevere for a while longer, the size you have got couldnt be that far away...

Just go to a running shoe store, pull out the brannock sizing device, take ur sock off and size yourself. Do it sitting down (un weighted) and look at the sizing. If you measure as a C (No brainer) if you are a D, then it comes down to your preference but as mentioned above, Supremes usually run one size wider.

I got my foot measured (old Bauer gauge), when seated I measured a C-Width, so I'm goin with the C-Width ONE95s as suggested above.

Thanks for all the replies by the way, greatly appreciated.

Guys, I'm just curious if he's going to go with a C width is he still going to have to size down. From my understanding he shouldn't have to. But I could be totally wrong?
