dix0r 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 My rink is run by a former pro roller hockey player who is now married to a former female NHL netminder.... The guy makes it difficult for anything he deems 'competition' to his league to rent floor time. It's been double booked a handful of times. After making arrangements prior ( when renting large blocks of time the same night for 3 months ) he will tell us when we show up that it needs to be paid all NOW or we're not going on. ( when there is 20+ people waiting and a payment plan had already been prearranged ) He comes up with phantom payments for other activities that go on... pretty much he'll do anything to squeeze money out of people. Even though he charges pretty high amounts for a 'dry' floor, its never maintained properly, its always super dusty, the change rooms are, at times, disgusting ( not from litter just from lack of regular cleaning )But, its the only high level league around... what can ya do? the guy who runs the league now ( brad ) is good shit, and it seems like he genuinely cares. but the other guy still runs the arena and still has some say in the league toohmmmm...former female NHL netminder... narrow it down a bit more! Race4LastPlace 31 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 Sweet, at the OTHER rink we are getting a pro team! The Louisville CHILL. it's MWHL "A" league. sweet.... CHILL
rjmurp01 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 perhaps I should make this a separate post, but what is the deal with this MWHL? i've heard about it. my family lives in evansville, in where they have another team. i know some of the guys who are signed on to play - they are ok skaters but not what I consider "pro" material. what is the competition/skill level actually going to be like? i feel like it may be comparable to club hockey. chikinpotpie 137 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Well, they were auctioning franchises on Ebay.............http://cgi.ebay.com/Hockey-Team-Mid-West-H...id=p3286.c0.m14
Race4LastPlace 31 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 according to the mwhl website The Midwest Hockey League (MWHL), a "A" level professional hockey league, will begin its inaugural season in November 2008 with a 40-game schedule. The Midwest Hockey League is designed to be a "stepping stone" to the next level of minor league hockey, and anticipates having affiliations with "AA" hockey teams and leagues. The MWHL is a regional minor league, which allows teams to keep costs down for owners and their fans. The league's objective is to allow smaller markets with adequate ice arena sizes and good locations to obtain and operate "A" level professional hockey teams, and to give their respective cities pro franchises to be proud of.i guess i just like that hockey can get more exposure here and may lead to better things in the future... rjmurp01 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 yeah, i checked out the website. i guess i'm just curious about the specific details within the league. based on the people i know that are going to be in the league, i could easily be in the league. i was wondering how much they are going to pay players, etc. i'm guessing that it could only be like $100 per game or something like that. i used to live in charleston, sc, which had an echl team. i think the walk-on players there made like $500 per week. hardly enough to live on. i'm thinking this league will be even less. especially if louisville's team is going to play at alpine. how are they going to get anyone to come to the games???? there's maybe room for 25 fans at that rink. and not to mention....it's a complete shithole. Race4LastPlace 31 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 its not a stand out rink, but its decent, and i dont think there will be several hundred fans at the games. But it can bring attention and exposure to the sport. And since the Cordish Co. has recently bought Louisville Gardens downtown, the only for sure plan they (Cordish) has made is to get a minor league franchise in there eventually. FCHC53 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 This thread kind of makes me feel lucky, of the seven rinks around here only one is a real shit hole. One is pretty so so, used to be a Safeway. The ice isn't bad but the locker rooms and such leave a lot to be desired. The other five are good to excellent.

colton23 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 well my rink is a roller rink thats family owned and operated. I live probably 2minute ride on a skateboard from the rink and know the owner personally. So if i feel the urge to play some hockey i just give the owner a ring and whala free floor time no problem unless there is a public skate. And since i work there also i can get free drinks whenever i want its prettty sweet but sometimes i really take it for granted
Langenbrunner15 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 Play at in the pallisades mall..wouldn't really consider calling it an actual rink. Ice Vault in Wanye, NJ though...beautiful.
moose77 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 When I played high school we practiced at this ice rink that was an absolute rat hole. It was old and had crappy ice and crappy locker rooms. We had to climb a huge flight of stairs to get from the locker rooms to the ice which absolutely SUCKED after a hard practice where you can't feel your legs afterwards. I took a few spills down those stairs. Thank God I had all my gear on.It wasn't Highland Ice Arena in Shorline, WA was it?

gxc999 7 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 My inline rink is really pissing me off. They recently completely got rid of the penalty boxes and one large section of the boards. The nets literally look like they've been around since the 70's or 80's and are full of holes on all sides. On top of this, they're now charging a bonus fee for anyone paying more than a week late, the guy who runs the place is never there and it's now $3 for a bottle of Gatorade from the vending machine.
