bubber27 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 They keep playing those little snippets on TSN & Sportsnet up north here almost every 20 minutes and every single one I see, I get more pumped for this tournament.Anybody have any favourites? I'm of Slovenian descent, so I'm not rooting for anyone. But the French and the Croatians will do some damage here.Phil
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I work with a writer of Portuguese decent and a Producer that will be hanging his Italian flag in the doorway of the studio and chanting "Forza Azurri" (sp?) for the duration of the tourney...so I am NOT really looking forward to it.*L*But, I like promos they are running. RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I said to Mr. Italy the other day...when Canada has a team in it, I'll care about it.He goes: "It's EURO Cup"I thought it was called that because the tourney is always HELD in Europe..."d'oh!"Guess I don't follow "footy" as well as I follow hockey. Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Italy are my crash and burn team.I was saying over on the caps boardsEvery tourney there is a potential winner who flames out. Italy is my pick for that flameout this year.2006 WC it was Ghana getting the 2nd spot ahead of the Czech Rep2004 it was, well, take your pick, spain or germany2002 it was france. If I remember right, they were in one of the weakest groups too, but could be misrememberingSo on and so forth Of course I'll watch, but it's gonna suck not seeing England in it.here is what I actually said about England...England make the same mistake every tournament, and have done since 1990. They put the big names on the team and hope talent will win it all, instead of putting the right players on the team.Rooney, Beckham, Terry, Gerrard are all great players, but as a unit, they have always underperformed.Thats because of a couple of things, one being coaching, but also squad selection too .You look back to the 1990 teams, or the 86 teams with Pearce, Walker, butcher, stevens, hately etc. They had the big name players, the superstars, the dominant players, but they also had the glue, they fearless win at all costs types. To put it in hockey terms, they had the gretzky players, but also the mcsorleys. Those tournaments minus england lessened the competition, but the recent outings have just been a bunch of players wearing the same jersey, not a team

I am being deadly serious here, usually England qualify when Scotland don't, so I usually support any team that England plays and hope for England to be knocked out quickly and painfully haha. But I can't even do that for Euro 2008....

hehatemefrisbee 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 There are many reasons that England under perform year after year. I think that maybe the FA are waking up and hopefully changing some things. The lack of a national academy is criminal. Even the US has one.Anyway, enough about England. As an England fan, im actually almost glad we arent in this one. I can watch the games without having that gut wrenching feeling. I personally think this is going to be a great tournament. I think Spain, Holland, Germany, Italy and France all have very strong teams. Group C is such a tough group. Probably the toughest of all time. All of the teams have a legitimate shot at the title. Should be fun to watch.

pantherfan 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 He pulled off some decent moves against Turkey but he attracted too much attention to really put things together and some of his shots seemed pretty weak, once he moves to Madrid though I hope he crashes and burns and realises what a good thing he had a ManU. masterpeice_patrice 4 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 he was coverd for most of the game and the goals resulted in passes from him. he draws alot of attention on the pitch that the game opens up natrualy for his temates and it reveals the depth portugal really has. i dont think he signed with madrid he claimed he wants to play there but nothing is official yet. i hope he chooses to stay with the red devils.
