Easton S15 issue

Recommended Posts

on some areas i tryed to protectoe the seams after glueing, but it didnt work. i also tryed epoxy but it was too brittle, after hardening the leather just came off of it and the epoxy was left on the composite or it cracked off

I had the same experience - protectoe doesn't help, and epoxy doesn't work.

so what does? Cement? Gorilla glue?

when is the new model due?!

Do the older Synergy, and newer SE too, have the same durability issue as the S15? and what about the lower Stealth models like the S11 and S7.....do they fall apart too?

I just with the 0ne95 fit me like the Eastons. will the one95 last longer? Can the one95 or one75 be custom ordered wider in the forefoot/toe area? If so, how much would they cost, and how do you order them?

I am a former CCM wearer and I had Graf G3s, but I decided to buy the s15's based on a friend loving them and weight.

Did anyone have lace bit issues and also the heal is higher than the front and my instep was hurting a bit. I skated 3 times in the skates and they seemed to have a lot of room above my foot, I put in some dr. scholls underneath the footbeds and now they fit better.

I bought my s15s a little over a month ago. I read MSH very carefully and knew about the durability issues. This should not be a surprise to anyone. Regarding lace bite and ankle pain, this too has been well documented on MSH. I also ended up with the same problem. First I had no forward flex and I couldn't bend my knees so I unlaced the top eyelet and I felt great. My ankles were cut up a bit but it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with. Several games later the cuts turned into deep bruises. I also came to realize that even though the skate fits amazing and wraps nicely on top of the foot, the composite footbed doesn't wrap around or firmly cradle the base of my foot so I get a little bit of a loose feeling. End result.... my RBK 9K's come on Thursday!!!! Does anyone want a pair of size 9 S15s in excellent condition?????

One of the guys in my club actually had the major issues with the S15 skates fitting and performing. Sold them to another bloke who loves them. Also my captain for the junior team I coach has the S15's and swears by them. He loves everything about them and he flys in them. Amzing to see the differences on opinions. I seem to remember allot of people saying similar things about the Vapor XX's when they came out. I use mine 4-5 times a week and they are solid. I guess it just depends on what you do in your skates etc.

Then again our coach has a pair of 1500's that are falling apart almost identically to Tom's issues. Seems strange the same issues are coming up again on two diff lines of skates.

new ones already out, the differences are very subtle, no piping around the entire tongue, top only, and the material for the "leather" look is different.

I wasn't talking about 08 model which was a very minor redesign (you also forgot to mention the skate was made stiffer) - same durability issues exist

I was asking more along the lines of S17 skates or something... Same idea just without quirks - wouldn't that be nice?!

Funny you say this because i had a pair of 1500's and saw no such issues :S wish i had never sold them when i got the s15's purely for gear whoring reasons.

if the leather material has been made tougher on the phase 2 s15's it will be a big improvement as thats the reason the area near the toecap seperated on mine. the leather wore thru(it seemed far to soft!) and the glue couldnt hold the remaining parts in place. i swear by them fit and performance-wise but i couldnt bring myself to risk the £££ on another pair.

Does anyone know about the S-11, pr the S-7's???

Do they have the same fit......and the same problems as the S-15?

I really like the fit of my S15, but I am willing to sacrafice the light weight to get new skates that fit like my S15, only cheaper and hopefully more durable, when the S15s eventually bite the dust.

s11's are no better with durability. I've had mine since October and I already need new skates. Stay away.

But they are substantially cheaper than the s15. If I am in the position of having to stay with Easton due to the fit, I might as well save some money with the lower models. My other option is to find a skate that fits off the shelf, or get a custom fitted skate.

I hear the one95 is great, but I would need it wider in the toe/forefoot area. How durable are the one95's (seriously...how long will they last?), and where/how can I get a custom order, and how much would that cost?

im in one95's now, went from a 9.5R s15 to a 9.0D one95. the baking process makes these skates fit like slippers!

The S15's performance was phenomenal, however I started having to glue areas of the skate back together after about 5 months. Glue holds up for a short time but with the stress of skating the glue eventually fails. I’ve had to re-glue the same areas several times while occasionally having to glue new areas. If you don’t mind having to do that then the S15 is a good one-year skate

WOW!!!!! I cant say how sorry I am for all you guys out there with the glue issues of your S15's. I have had mine for a year now skating 2-3 times a week and the only real issue I have had is with the synthetic cover on the toe of the skate wear and tear. As I have posted in another thread; I see where I will eventually have an issue with the glue but nothing as of yet.

BTW; I'd like to see a picture of the new slightly modified S15'.s

My s15 saga continues, as does my quest for its eventual replacement......

I brought my s15s back to the LHS to see if I could send them back for a refund. The manager said that he would be glad to, but he would not be able to say for sure if Easton would give a refund, or just fix them and send them back. He said they seem to be in a lot better shape than the others he sent back. This was due to my meticulous care (wipe dry, and air out every night, and on the off day, I check them and super-glue any trouble spots). The other problem is that I would need a new skate to use while Easton takes the skate. I asked about the other Easton skates (1500, etc) and he said he felt the same issues would likey arise. So I am stuck with the only skate that seems to fit, but has durability issues. The manager then said that he feels I should keep the s15s, continue to take good care of them, and use them until they cant be used anymore. He feels I can get a year out of them. So that takes care of that. I think I am OK with it.

But.....

What to do when the s15s do fail. What skate can I get? I know the Bauers, sadly, are out. every model in 2E still isnt wide enough where the toecap meets the boot....and heating doesnt help. And I cant shell out almost 8 bills for customs. Grafs will be wide enough, but I get mixed reviews about weight, older materials, holder, etc. Still a possibility. Then I tried on the u+ by ccm. after heating, it really opened up, and it doesnt have that joint at the toecap that hits me on the NBH. It still seemed a bit tight, but the manager said another bake will make them open up even more. So, the u+ seems to be the other possibility. I am concerned about paying another 5 bills plus for an unproven skate where I dont have any info about durability. I saw that the new Vector 08 looks just like the u+ but is far more affordable. The LHS doesnt have it yet so I cant try it on. Does the new CCM Vector 08 have the same dimensions as the u+ and can it be heated to expand as much for a really wide foot? I dont see much about this skate here. Anyone have info on it? If it can fit the really wide forefoot like the u+, and is pretty durable and stiff, it might be the solution for my next skate.

I just got myself a pair of pro stock S15 and I hope they will be good for a while!

New s15's? Also has anyone else cracked the shell? I cracked mine on the bottom where the little vent like screen thing is. Crack gets bigger everytime i skate on them. And the glue is so bad now that I'll probally break my ancles if i try to use them again (skatin on flexlite 18's rite now which are pretty sick for $250). I'm thinking of buying a new pair of wheels in the next week and I've been hearing that easton has fixed the glue problm somewhat? I bought mine right when they came out and they lasted about 7 months, so maybe that was a bad batch?

Im the only person i know of that has cracked the shell. I'll try and get pics, they're pretty brutal now.

I saw them @ my LHS a few weeks ago - you wouldn't be able to tell the "updated" & the original model apart from a foot away... Look is exactly the same, they appeared to fit a bit smaller (maybe due to reduced widht?), and they are also a bit stiffer (evident by just trying to pinch quarters together). So pictures would be pointless...

The jury is still our whether they're more durable...

Strangely my 1500C didn't have the same glue problem (so it's not like Easton doesn't have a clue or something) - same construction, just slightly different materials - totally different results

Also unlike Bauer I couldn't find the manufacture date anywhere on the skate or the box.

I think that East West hockey has oversize toe caps you can order for Bauer skates.

I was over in Tampa, and stopped at a LHS on the way and saw the newer s15. It was double stiched all the way around, and the guy there said it was more durable with the newer glue and stitching. He told me, contrary to my guy at my LHS, that Easton would replace my s15 (2 months old and leather starting to seperate), with a new version pair, no problem. Does anyone know if this is true, or does anyone know what their procedure/policy is at Easton? Even better, does anyone know anyone at Easton that I could call or email?

Thanks!!!
