I got one of those woody/composite sticks

Recommended Posts

There are a few AHLrs using hybred sticks, perhaps some NHLrs as well. One of my customers works at a rink and goes thru the garbage after their practice, collects all the broken sticks then brings them to me to repair. There is usually some in there. I also have some pro-stocks in that configuration, so some must see a benefit to that configuration.

For a rookie you should be OK. I tend to like the Eaton's over the CCM/RbK ones. The Easton's seem lighter and the THC ones are a bit heavier but seem indesructible for beer league use. The THC blades seem to torque alot and seem better suited for street/ball hockey IMO.

Interesting. I'm wondering why it only cost me like a third of the price that a decent composite stick usually runs for.

materials. weight.

anyways, JR said it's a z-carbon? There dressing up all sticks to look like 1 pieces now to sell them. Wood is dead.

I've always been a fan of pure composites, OPS or 2-piece shaft+ comp blade. Whenever I come across a hybrid, it generally has poor balance and that ruins it for me. Plus, if you spend the $60 to get a great blade and perfect balance set up, you could've just bought an OPS to begin with.

I have a Mario Lemieux Pro Return Vector 130C hybrid (signed), but just in looking it over, I don't know how it would ever hold up. It almost seems like the wood blade is plywood

What OPS can you buy for $60, and at that price how good can it be? I believe that a good wood stick, or Shaft/Blade combo is much better than a shitty low-end composite OPS.

Do NHL'ers really use them? Ive never seen anyone with one. Ive seen the fused comp. shaft with the wood blade, but not the otherway around.

You misread what I wrote. I said if you spent $60 to get a great blade and have perfect balance, you might as well get a good OPS anyway. $60 for a good blade +$50 for a crappy shaft= real OPS cost.

Oh, my mistake. I see where you were going now. But I'm sure you understand what I was trying to say as well?

Yeh, and I generally agree with you. Most of the low end composites are crap. On occasion though one of the big e-tailers will clear out something good for $60-70. I've never seen or felt the allure of the wood blade/comp shaft, although some guys swear by it...

yeah usually anything under $100 isn't worth your time once you start using high end stuff. I've used my fair share of garbage in the start of playing hockey though.

The last R2XN10 that I broke lasted over two years. In the meantime I went through a couple dozen blades, wood and comp both. Replacing blades for anywhere from $20 to $50 each made a lot more sense for me than buying a new $200 stick. As for balance, there are a number of blades that work well, as long as you stay away from RBK,Easton and NBH.

NBH one70 stick is $60, it's a pretty good stick. The only thing that isn't great about it is the balance, it's a little blade heavy, but definitely a good stick IMO.
