Entering my first homebrew competition

Recommended Posts

I'm entering my beers into a competition next month. My first competition since I've started brewing.

I'm more interested in feedback than winning, but winning would be nice, I just don't think I've got enough experience under my belt (about 14-15 batches to date)

I think somewhere in the last 4 months I crossed a line from making Beerish drinks to making real good beer. What I had been making before that was OK, some of it was pretty decent, but I think what I'm making now is a whole lot better, I have the science down, I know what hops etc that I personally like, and I get to make the beers I really like.

So fingers crossed for the montgomery county fair homebrew competition!!!!

Here is what I'm entering.

American Pale Ale

66 IBU's, 6.0% ABV

Whiskey Vanilla Porter

(entering it in the specialty category, used 12 oz jameson whiskey and vanilla beans)

74 IBU's, 8.0% ABV

Light Ale - American Wheat

26 IBU's, 5.5% ABV

Think of it like playing hockey with a group that is better than you skill wise. You may have a hard time keeping up at first, but in the end it'll make you a better player/brewmaster.

Hmmm....maybe the next MSH Skate Hotel Suite party can feature Allsmokes h'brew.

That might keep him busy for a looong time leading up to the skate.
