Mission bans international shipping?

Recommended Posts

Recently an order for some mission hockey skates through hockey giant was cancelled, apparently mission is now part of the list stopping international shipping of their products through the big stores.

Apparently this is recent, is it true, or was is a staff member from hockey giant being confused?

Anyone heard of this before? I know that they had already been barred from international shipping of easton, reebok and ccm, but I hadn't heard until now that it was mission as well

It's because hockey in america is cheaper than just about every where else, so the retailers from other countries are losing moeny, and so the hockey companys do it in the intrest of the small(er) buisnesses in other countries

As always the little man finds a way to save himself a few bucks and the big retailer catches on and closes the loophole. Yes, it comes down to money and the conglomerate protecting its interests to uphold the profit margin. Another example is the oil giants recently raising the price of diesel fuel to equal or higher than the cost of gasoline. A lot of people where going over to diesel cars and Big Daddy was losing profits do they raised the cost to put the screws to everyone who drives. Unfortunately its the way of business today and its effort to protect itself in a very competative market. If you have friends or relatives in the U.S. have them buy it for you and send it to their address. Then you can wire them the cash for it and the cost to ship it mail or courier. You'll pay duty charges when it arrives to you but you would pay that anyway if Hockey Giant sent it to you. Bet you it will still work out cheaper than buying it in your own country.

Spare me.

Has nothing to do with the manufacturer - a skate sold to a dealer in the US compared to Australia is still a sold skate - they are protecting the stores in their markets.

Someone made a post or thread about Hockey Monkey(lets call it hockey monkey) saying they wouldn't ship things because Easton (I think it was Easton, lets just say it is) doesn't allow them to ship Easton Products to Canada. So said poster than emailed Easton, and said they had no such policy in place. So the person than e-mailed hockey monkey relaying the information he received from Easton, and they ending up shipping the sticks(lets call them sticks.)

Pantherfan I'm afraid your not quite right there. As someone who lives in the UK & previously operated a hockey shop I had a very good relationship with the distributors. They get hammered for shipping, duty & VAT when importing equipment. The margins they are working on are pretty thin. Then there is the LHS. The margins they are doing are sometimes ridiculous. When I first started doing equipment (late 80's) I looked into all sorts of ways of getting equipment at a more reasonable price but to no avail. The advent of the internet now means that buyers in the UK, etc. can now see what is available & at what price. This isn't unique to hockey. Most things are cheaper in the US. The distributors here are under pressure to supply product as soon as it is launched. This means, on occasion, paying higher shipping costs to get stuff to the UK quicker. We all know how much things change so this can be an ongoing challenge.

In summary I respect the position of the manufacturers protecting their dealers. If they go out of business then where will we be?
