mxihockey 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 So tonight was very eye opening. The locker room and all the stuff you don't see when watching a game was amazing. I definitely learned a lot about recruiting. One thing he said that I've never thought of is that people are spending all this money on composite sticks to increase their shot, but their passing isn't the same. However you only have 3-4 shots a game to the 10-12 passes. Something to think about... He also said that even if i were to call him and leave a message he would not be able to call back. cxo 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 $300 and airfare? I'd say that evens out with the millions and the notoriety that the school receives for the bowl game. I won't even bother with the inequity of coaching salaries that are getting thrown around the D1 world these days. How do you pay each player then? Why should a bench warmer make the $160k that the starting QB gets? Amateur sports needs to stay amateur. If they're any good, they'll get the pay off later on. mxihockey 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Well I ended up calling my coach because he was going to be there too. He told me to just go with the khakis and polo. There were about 15-20 other kids there and most of them were wearing t-shirts.. If I had warn a shirt and tie I would of stuck out like a sore thumb.. mxihockey 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Thanks guys. It truly was amazing to be in the locker room and to talk to a division 1 coach. First time I've ever experienced something like that. Another thing he said, youve probably heard it before but.."If you go home and think you've worked hard there is always someone somewhere else who is working harder". Kinda made me think of Perron :), but it's things like that which make me realize why I wana be there.
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Outside of high school football in Florida and Texas, high school sports barely generate any revenue and athletes are more and more forced to pay participation fees in order to cover the costs. How nice is it when a college gets a few million for a bowl appearance and the players get $25 a day for food? What about the professors that get million dollar grants for the university? Do the students that do a lot of the work get a kickback? And that few million that is generated from a bowl game may not even cover the coaches salary. Apparently you think that every dollar made goes right to the universities pockets? Get real.

kosydar 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 I do think they need to do away with the rule that a college athlete can't get a little cash. When you see how much money a school makes on some of the programs and a kid only gets meal money it just doesn't seem right. They also get room and board paid for, or at least a stipend to cover it. And at least where I go they get a shitload of free clothes and shoes. For football if the team goes to a bowl game each player gets money for transportation and a gift basket. The stuff in the gift basket is worth at least $300. There isn't a whole lot they go without from just following the regulations. Not to mention like 1080334093 different sets of uniforms. And yet its nearly impossible to find a decent one out of the bunch.Outside of high school football in Florida and Texas, high school sports barely generate any revenue and athletes are more and more forced to pay participation fees in order to cover the costs. Apparently you think that every dollar made goes right to the universities pockets? Get real.Exactly. I know that at my school the two sports that make money (football and mens basketball) cover all the sports that don't make money (softball, volleyball, womens basketball, cheerleading, mens and womens golf, wrestling, etc.), helps fund new arenas and facilities, and helps finance new programs (our new D1 baseball team). It isn't as if the Deans and Presidents of the universities get paid more money if the football team goes to a better bowl game.
mack 44 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Granted it was in the South, but our baseball team got hosed on compared to what the football team got and they were absolute shit. The basketball team and us were infinitely better but the football team got all the priorities.
