true story.

i have about 5 warrior sticks. all 2 piece. aks, dolos, and a johnson.

so i come onto (another) hockey forum and i read a thread about waxing up the blades then heating to let the wax seep into the cloth tape. and i think to myself... BRILLIANT!

about a week ago, i used tea candle wax, which melted pretty quick but none the less didn't do the trick. so i uped my game and got some "bee's wax" that my mom uses for sewing. comes in a bar the size of a brick.... all natural.

so i apply then heat and this stuff takes a while to melt & seep evenly.

so i do my thing and come back and i notice all the tape has split?

turns out when warrior blades get hot, the foam inside expands and the blade gets all funky.

2 federov dolo curves, 2 ak kovie curves, and 1 johnson kovie later. i learned my $250 lesson....

and i'm relaying it to you.

Sorry to hear about that...But I wouldnt feel bad Im sure you arent the first here to crack some blades by heating them...Ive done the same thing with some old z-carbons...

Sounds like you heated it up hot enough to re-curve the blade. The heat from a hairdryer should be more than enough to melt wax into the tape. No idea what you used.

I don't even melt my wax. It works fine unmelted. Anyway, try to warranty return. Tell them the truth! They might think you're um, special, and let you do it

A) i dunno how to post pics

B) i'm too lazy

C) i used my gas stove on high heat, but hold the blade about a 12-18 inches away from the flame. i've been using this method to remove blades since like 1994 with no problem. it's still dumb don't get me wrong..... just wish i knew that the foam would expand before hand.

D) the bauer One90 didn't get all funky! and i heated that one twice....

E) i already replaced them. "i'm rich bitch!"

You're rich? Well I'm Rick James, bitch! Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Someone better be putting in overtime with their chores now for that batch of blades.

I suppose using the stove wasn't too dumb. Just pay more attention to the wax when you're doing it. If it was hot enough to expand the foam, the wax must've been dripping right off.

I just use sex wax. It's very soft and you can work that stuff into the tape with just your fingers if you want. I don't bother going overkill with the whole melting deal because i change my tape every game.

I tried it once with the lighter on an R2 blade back then and it split!

At the risk of sounding like a tool, using wax paper works well for me. Throw the waxy side of the paper around the bottom of the blade (front and back) and run it up and down the blade real fast with your hand. It heats up quite a bit from the friction created when running it up and down (and sometimes breaks the paper a bit) and does the job for me. Can't say it really melts into the cloth tape but hey, it does the trick without much effort.

Wax on. Wax off.
