5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Watching the ESPY awards and the only glimpse of hockey is Rick Nash's nice move. Anybody else think Hockey gets the shaft...
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Hockey is a regional sport with a small fanbase in the United States. I don't understand why people are still shocked by the media coverage. You guys just need to deal.

5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Not shocked, just disappointed. Believe me I've been to Canada, it was hockey heaven and if I could talk my wife into moving, I would. Wait, Wait, they just showed the Red Wings in the nominees for the Best team. So two mentions.
gxc999 7 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 ESPN would show a lot more hockey related stories when they broadcast the games. It's a matter of business sense but that doesn't stop me from resenting ESPN a bit for it. And yes, JR is right, hockey is primarily a 5th sport in America now. It sucks but what are we gonna do? chippa13 1844 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 This is why I buy the NHL channel. B)Is that like the CentreIce package? No, it is a single channel solely devoted to hockey programming, highlight shows, and featured games. Directv added it to the package I get about a year ago. D3nZ 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I thought Montréal should have had a heads up in the Game or Comeback of the year. But like JR said, hockey isn't a national sport in the US. It only gets love in selected regional markets. I still watched the show.EDIT: Also if ESPN would still be doing NHL games, the story would be different. Just wish that they'd quit with the "Greatest Moments" commericals. They only have about 4 of them and they run them about 100 times a day.

5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I, for one, have gotten a little tired of the Ace Bailey/Eddie Shore bit.You and me both. That and Gretzky's 50 in 39 games. They play those like crazy all the time. Not to mention that the volume on those are super loud compared to the actual games they show.
WhiskeyTango19 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 At least they have seemed to retire the one in which Darryl Sittle spews his nonsense about the chicken he ate before his 10 point game.

JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 I hate ESPN, but I'm only one person. I do my part. From the day after the world series ends I do not let ESPN or ESPN2 go in my house. NO ONE is allowed to watch it on any tv in my apt during the entire hockey season. Untill they put hockey back on ESPN, they do not get my viewership during the NHL season. I understand, the NHL not being on ESPN isn't entirely their fault, but I wish they gave it a fair shake.
Dare to Dream 1980 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 I live in Chicago and now that the winter classic is coming here, hockey is almost the most talked about sport right behind the cubbies... Anyways I was watching the ESPY's and for honorable mentions, the best NHL player didnt even get shower. For anyone that cares SID THE KID got it. But yes, when i go on hockey tournaments and stuff, hockey is almost never broadcasted on a national channel but local channels yes. I go to DET alot and there is always redwings game, with baseball or football broadcasted on bigger channels.. It sucks but like you guys said CENTER ICE IS THE BEST THING EVER specially the one channel that never stops playing hockey all year round
