Mission stick question

Recommended Posts

Saw the good deal thread and noticed V-hex for cheap..

I did a search around here for reviews, couldn't really find any. But some were saying the flex is stiffer than listed, while some were saying it was softer...so how does an 85 flex really feel?

And I checked the pattern db, it says Rafalski is pretty much a Sakic clone but I checked the Mission catalog and it lists 3/4 mid deep, which curve would apply to this stick?

Thanks

Never ventured into Mission sticks. Is this a good pick to get a taste of the brand without breaking the bank? The Ribeiro sounds like a square toe Drury, I'd be interested in trying that. Also curious how an 85 plays though, softer than the norm would be great.

How concave is the shaft? A small contour is ok, but a heavy dishing will keep me away.

My first TPS was the Intrigue when it went on blowout and it has taken a while to let myself think about buying TPS again, I don't want that to happen with Mission.

Nothing can be as bad as the intrigue. They might have been the worst sticks I've seen in the last five years. Back on topic; Ribeiro is shorter than a Drury but otherwise fairly similar.

LOVE the V-Hex... I'm up to 4 of them (2 pro stock, 2 retail). If I hadn't taken the summer off, I would be stocking up on them wherever I could find them on sale. But not skating for over 2 months, I can't justify buying more sticks when I have 2 fresh ones uncut/untaped. I personally think the feel on the V-Hex is amazing... and I've used tons of different sticks, majority of them ended up for sale here (Easton Stealth CNT, Easton Synergy SE, RBK 7K Sickick, Warrior Dolomite, Vapor XXX, Vapor XXX Lite, Warrior AK w/ just about every blade I could find locally, SWD RM9.... at the end of the day, the V-Hex has been my favorite feeling/shooting stick so far. Again though, it's all PP.

I'm currently using 85 Flex in the Missions... They come perfect length for me, so I don't need cutting, etc. And prior to using the Missions, I was all over the place with flexes, so I wouldn't be up for comparison...

The reason I ask is because I believe they changed the curve of the Rafalski just recently, kinda like how TPS changed the Nash.

Just wondering if these sticks have the old or the new curve.

The retail V-Hex' and 1 Fuel I have are all Rafalski patterns, and they're all similar to the Easton Sakic.

Boyes has gone through a couple changes over the last couple years, from 5 to 5.5 and back to 5 lie.

Rafalski is pretty much the Sakic if not identical. Leopold 2 is the Iginla.

I only know that because those are the curves I have.

if i'm not mistaken the leopold 2 curve now has hossa's name on it. can anyone confirm that?

It went from:

Hull -> Leopold 2 -> Hossa

HockeyTim meant that Hull/Leopold2/Hossa is the clone of Easton's Iginla pattern.

yeah, i understood what he mean, jsut trying to clear it up for anyone buying a newer mission stick, they aren't going to find a leopold 2 anymore and wanted to confirm that it was now the hossa

To me the mission 85 flex feels more ike an easton 100

the mission 75 feels like the easton 85

I don't think that's totally true. I find it to be around 88 maybe. Then again, I've only owned 2 mission sticks.

This probably doesn't help at all, but the 75 flex L-2's I used to use felt very whippy, possibly even lower than 70 flex. The 85's felt like 85's in the store. But that was a different manufacturer (I believe they've gone away from Adila).

Well, im speaking from only my point of view.

I have only owned the new mission TI pro ( 2 of them) and find this to be true for that model in particular.

one or two sticks is not enough to determine how accurate mission sticks tend to be. Especially if you're comparing against only one or two of each other brand. If you want to know for sure, ask Joe from Oggie grip. He has a machine that can accurately tell exactly how much force is needed to flex a stick. Only by using a machine like that on hundreds of sticks can anyone give an accurate answer on the tendancies of a stick manufacturer.
