Custom s15's

Recommended Posts

I just got the custom s15's today from ebay.

Holy crap.

The pictures didnt do them justice. These things are insane. They are obviously a bit heavier than the retail, but not by much. I cant believe what they did to these skates.

-felt tounge with lace bite procection

-an entire extra layer of carbon fiber added (glued, stitched, and riveted (on bottom)

-entirely different material on toecap (like a hard rubber/plastic), and it is thicker.

-looks like different leather, it is thicker, and there is more of it, and much more stitching.

-Another piece of a more durable looking leather c0mpletely covering the two leather parts coming down from the front lace area to the bottom of the skate (where my retail s15's started to fail).

-thicker padding in the interior, and thicker, reinforced tendon guard.

-full steel in the RB2 holders

-no s15 name on the side of the skate, and it seems much stiffer than my previous retail s15's

they came with the tags from the Easton custom dept, and they fit like a glove, just like my old s15's....exact smae size....(except they arent quite deep enough, but are deeper than my old retail s15's). Everything about them feels so much more solid. I will post pics if anyone wants to see them. And I got them for $385!

Me<-------Happy.

I previously had the retail s15's, and they werent quite deep enough for me. They still felt great, and no lace bite, but not the perfect fit. Better than any other skate I had tried. These new custom s15's fit better, as they are a bit deeper, but not by much.....but at least deeper than my previous retail s15's.

That help?

Any pics?

I will post some tonight with some close ups. I cant wait to skate in these. The 1500s have been killing me. The 1500s are very nice, but they just didnt fit/feel right.

My wife has no clue as to why I am so happy. She just looks at me as if I am losing it......which I guess I kind of am.

first off I'm happy for you - congrats!

secondly - DAMMIT - I'm jealous! my S15 are slowly falling apart & I paid $400 for them!

Please post some close-up pics!

Also would you mind sharing a secret of how in the world could you possibly get all that for mere $385 [especially considering that all the issues S15 usually has seem to be fixed in this model]?!

Where did you get them from?

I will post close ups tonight. I decided to stay with the S15 as it is the only skate that works for me, until I can find another retail option or go custom. I watch ebay like a hawk to try and pick up used pairs to tide me over, knowing full well the durability issues....but a $50 for a pair that will give me six months before disintegrating is OK with me. Then I saw these in my size and emailed him an offer immediately. We haggled a bit, and I got them for $385 plus $15 shipping....4 bills all in. Took a chance with them, but I am really surprised at just how much better they are than I expected. His pics and description didnt really adequately describe them.

off ebay deal? I guess this explains why nothing shows un in 'completed auctions' search - the guy must have just cancelled it...

sounds like you've got a great deal then.

still curious though where are they originate from & how were they ordered?

I believe they were ordered for a player. They had a tag from the Easton Custom dept with all the info, and the player. Other than that, I dont know squat. Told him to email me if anymore deals like that came through.

Went to the LHS to get them sharpened, and stood them side by side with the stock ones, and the differences were very apparent. First, the skate is just bigger, with the extra layers of composite and leather. It is heavier, but still weighs less than my 1500's, and the leather is different than the retail. I will post picks tonight.

Thats a really nice pair of skates, the differences look minor when you see the pics and take into account what Eric posted about them. The toe caps, toungue and ankle padding all looks slightly different. They look great, nice pick up Eric, ENJOY!

poor kid - now he can kiss his sponsorship goodbuy... Oh well - JR was trying to cover up for him but the truth always comes out :)

BTW I also didn't even think of this side effect - there's a tons of pro stock stuff on ebay that has player's names ets [and I'm not even talking about "big" names]

re the skates - nicely done! all I can say is that it's apparent that Easton realized what the problem spots are & they have covered them up pretty good in this one

hopefully that can do even better when the next (S17?) model when it comes out next (when?!) year - one can only hope...

enjoy your skates!

Nice pick up Eric, I've been watching how long you have stressed out about your skates. I would love to order a pair of those if I can find someone to do it for me. If you can please e-mail me a list of any specs you might have and I'm gonna go to work on it. JR if you or anyone you know can order those for me please let me know as I'm quietly on my third pair of S-15's. thanks for any help.

That sucks since I am an easton guy, all except for my jofa shoulers, shins and elbows. They're stuff just seems to fit me the best, right down to the socks and jock. It's just a real shame they can't seem to get the same quality out of their skates that they do from their pants and gloves (pro stock in both), and sticks. I'm a bigger guy and I guess that doesn't help with the S-15's, but 6 to 8 months is a little crazy. I still find them to fit like a glove though and you can say I'm hooked on em. I've tried 9k's and the one 95's and just can't get used to them like the Eastons.

i dont see major difference, maybe it is like and 08 or 09 model. did it come with a ankle lock thing?

These are Waaaaay different. They are tanks....as tanky as an s15 can be.

The pics dont do them justice. They are bigger, wider, and a bit heavier (but not as heavy as my 1500's). Just built so much stronger.

I am sitting here, wearing them to help the brak in, and DAMN they are way stiffer than my retail s15's.

Thanks for the compliments, and to one poster, I cant give specs as I didnt order them.

Looks like the original customer just ordered the extra durable version with a felt tounge!

Now some one buy my 1500's!!!!!

Don't look at me. Easton told me they wouldn't allow me to do custom skate orders.

any idea how the heck were these ordered then? unless of course easton doesn't like just you in particular ;))

Based on JR's edit of the earlier post:

"**don't make this kid lose his scholarship"

I'd say it's a safe bet they were a custom order for a college player. Easton may not do customs through their retail shop but they'll certainly do them for elite players playing at those types of levels.
