Custom s15's

Recommended Posts

The guy on Ebay either scored them from the school or player and has decided to sell them. You see allot of college "pro stock" on ebay.

There are some other differences as well. I had them on last night, tied up, hour on, 15 min off, rinse and repeat, watching football......hoping to help quicken the break in process. These skates are just plain different than the retail s15's. When I got the retail s15's, I got on the ice that day, without baking them, and they felt phenomenal. I dont think it will be that way with these. Not only was I surprised by how much they were modified durability wise, I am also surprised how much stiffer they are. They are a bit bulkier and heavier, but that really shouldnt be a problem....but the stiffness...wow. When I pull the laces, the entire side of the boot with the eyelets hardly flex! These will definitely take longer to break in. I am not going to bake them, as I didnt really see the benefits after baking my previous pair. It seems the composite shell type boots dont benefit much from this process.....and I am a bit paranoid about the baking process possibly contributing to the glue issues. I will post on the break-in process and what they are like after I skate on the tomorrow. These are different than what I expected. Better in most ways, but in others (like stiffness, weight, etc) it looks as if they will take some extra time getting used to them. Very happy that I now have a pair I can wear, and give me the time to find a retail pair to truly fit, or get customs, and not feel rushed about it. I have a feeling I will have these skates for quite a while (I hope)

You should consider going one eyelet down if you can barely flex forward in them. They wont break in much, since its a composite material.

My retail s15's did actually break in, and they felt great. I will definitely go down an eyelet, or go loose on it, until they break in a bit. The heel lock is more pronounced in these as well, so I feel comfortable with going looser up top.

One could hope, but it does add weight, so I wouldnt bank on it.

I would hope they do re-design the "leather" areas, especially in respects to the material, durability, and how they are attached to the composite.

i remeber this lol...at 56 seconds crosby gets a stick form the bench before talbot ties the game

I didn't notice. I was at the game, didn't see what kind of stick he got.

If you can find clearer video you should be able to tell in the celebration after the goal.

No worries A2rhino.

I just got back from skating on them for the fist time. I am not sure what the issue was with the 1500s, as I felt off balance and they just felt "off" somehow. The second I stepped on the ice with these, I felt instant familiarity. The balance, the fit, the feel...all there. They are heavier, not as much as the 1500, but is is noticable on the ice. I will get used to this very quick. They are also much stiffer, and I laced them much looser than the previous retails....worked perfect. Great heel lock, great agility, and great support....the felt more solid and stable than the retails (probably due to the greater stiffness and solid steel). After an hour, I felt absolutely zero discomfort. As far as the expected greater durability?....we will have to wait and see. If these are as durable as I hope, and if the were a bit deeper, they would be my perfect skate. Anyway, initially I amvery pleased with them.

ERIC, I'm one of if not the biggest supporter of this skate and have to say that I absolutley love what you got there. I've had my retail S15's for over a year and have had no issues with them. I even like the tongue. Although I would love to have those in a 9.5 reg. Congrats on a Great investment!!

Hey, preaching to the choir here when it comes to having some serious issues with this the S15. I STILL have serious issues with the S15, especially if I have to buy a custom, hand made in Canada, reinforced pair to get an acceptable skate! As it stands, I wouldnt buy another retail pair until the durability issues are completely resolved. And thanks, yes, I got a great deal, and am very happy with their performance so far....hopefully I will be as happy in the long run.

I will still be looking for another brand of retail pair (like Graf) when I go up north, that will address ALL my needs. If I cant find that, I will get fitted by JR for customs. These S15's are great, but Im not sure I would pay full price for a new pair, even if I knew how to get them! It is a short term solution to a long term problem, but at least I have a high performance skate, that is hopefully durable, and will last me until I can find that elusive perfect skate for me.

I think you misunderstood me; I've had NO issues with mine. I love them but in a perfect world I would get exactly what you have in a 9.5 reg fit. with yellow Superfeet insoles and LS2 holders and steel.

i would have asked for a completely covered toe on that skate. we all know what it looks like after a few months.

The problem with the toes (in my experience) isnt the composite, but the shredding and disintegration of the material covering it. These have a completely different covering that is more like a thick and hard rubber. Seems much more durable.

BUT, you are completely correct.....why not just cover all of it! Even better, since weight wasnt the primary concern with these skates, why not just put a traditional toe on, like on the one95? Unless the composite is constructed as a whole unit, and cutting off the toe would cause structural issues.

So, yes...I would have asked for that material to completely cover the toe.

and thanks for pointing out flaws in my new skates! LOL :)

OK, I see. I would take these with the LS2 and a completely covered toe, a bit more depth, and maybe even the stock tounge.......and a guarantee by God that they would last at least 5 years! And throw in the ability for the skates to turn in to a Penthouse Pet that will do me, cook me dinner, clean my house, and support me financially....then turn back in to skates for my games. Actually, if they could do that, I will just stick with the stock holders. LOL

Yeah, I would pay the full custom price for that.

But I dont think Easton has those improvements in the budget this year.

:(

I'll be happy with 2 years. Not many if any skates last that long anymore. Besides, by then they will have a better, upgraded model. You figure at $200.00 a year for a skate investment isnt all that bad. How many $150.00 -$200.00 sticks do guys go threw in one year let alone 2.

Agreed. My retail pair would have lasted longer, but the damage after 3 months was enough to return them in time for the warranty.

My customs are obviously not under warranty as I got them on Ebay, so I will be wearing them until the bitter end.

I would glady spend the average $200 per year for skates....absolutely.
