MissConduct

Brian's has gone under

No...

The company in question wants to get into the goal business. There is a strong likelyhood that the Brian's name may not even exist if this happens. Or as a secondary name like "Koho by Lefevre."

LOL...

Notice my smileys.

Yeha, I noticed them. You have no clue what your talkin' about JR! Just Kidding. I can't see Easton making pads though. I hope they don't ruin Brian's reputation for good craftmanship with a nice traditional pad. But knowing Easton they'll have to come out with some incredible "Synergy Pad."

Honestly, I think the Synergy skate concept would make a great goal skate. No cowling needed, light, stiff, doesn't break down and protective as hell. As for the Synergy pad, how is that any different than the "Vapor" pads?

I mean, the general thought is that they'd keep the same people making the stuff. At least that what would be the right thing. I just hope that they keep the name, but then again, they weren't going to do that with the other fish they tried to reel in.

Dammit, now I want to know what the "other" company is!

Why would Easton making goalie gear be a bad thing? Say what you want about Easton's products, but what other company has pushed the technology as far as Easton has in the past decade? They'll pump in the necessary funds and make a good product, even though most here will bitch about it.

Good point.

It's always easy to take potshots at the top dog.

Top dog in sticks....I am sure Bauer and CCM would be the Top dogs in skates...

No, it's not that, It's just that I wouldn't like to see them ruin one of the few traditional pads that exist today. Brian's we're always known for their craftsmanship aswell. However Easton may come out with some top of the line pad but we'll see.

Justin thats an excellent example.

Brian's also a good choice if Vaughn isn't available.

Is the foundation beginning to shake???? Probably just the early tremors...LOL

But in a situation like this, Brian makes great pads (just off reputation, I've obviously never used them), and assuming that Easton continues to manufacture pads of the same quality with only a different logo, the consumer would benefit from having the pads kept on the market. Then again, Easton could very well have a major over haul and change everything about the pads.

I'm willing to bet it's the former over the latter.

Take Mission for example. I don't know what their branding situation is going to be, but having Itech in their corner will help their goal brand immensely.

Consolidation in any industry rarely benefits consumers.

Chadd, you're kind of right there. Consolidation of hockey brands will most certainly help our LHS'... fewer bills to pay, less SKUs to stock, less closeouts to try and compete against, etc... but it'll also mean more competitors carrying the same gear, so low prices will become even more of a factor there. Right now, the hockey market is hurting... many manufacturers aren't coming close to their sales goals, LHS' are having a hard time paying their bills, they're not ordering much from the manufacturers... we as consumers have SO many options, between the large number of stores carrying hockey equipment, all the internet dealers, and even ebay and trading/selling forums like on this site. In the end, consolidation of brands, along with a few shops closing their doors, will improve the health of the hockey equipment business.
