RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 You can go into Old Montreal. There is lots to see there. You're only a block off Ste. Catherines. Tons of shopping and restaurants and stuff. Get to the Bar B Barn for lunch...that place is great. I've never done the finer eateries of Montreal. Always just find a quick meal, then off to the game. davis 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 hahaha...I stayed at the Sheraton last March for a few days for some Habs games. As mentioned, Rue Sainte Catherine, which is one of Montreal's main arteries is just up from you. They've got pretty much all the main shopping/grub spots up there. Rousseau Sports is about a 1/2 hour cab ride away, but is well worth it...it's quite the dandy spot. I think there's a theatre or something there too somewhere. Schwartz's was suggested, which is awesome; I liked Dunn's too, which is just a street over from you. I became REAL good friends with Google maps during my stay, haha. GH_ID 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 I think you can just go walk/shop on ste-catherine street parrallel to the bell centre. Old Montreal is also good advice.
Viking 1 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 If your into food, try Schwartz's smoked smoked meat. Best smoked meat I ever ate.Schwartz'sYes. Before I went there, I thought "It's just a sandwich - big deal... I can get smoked meat from the deli counter at the grocery store, and I don't even really like it that much..." When I was waiting in a line down the street to get in, I was really ready to hate it... When I took the first bite, I came to a startling realization: All the other food I had eaten in my life up until that moment was just wrong. I am now starving just remembering it. I live in Montreal and refuse to go thereI see your point about better places in Montreal .......but there is no other establishment in Montreal with a Gordie Howe look-a-like as the host! He put up with us calling him Gordie all night long and bought us a round of drinks(all 10 of us) because we were from Boston and he loves the Bruins!. The guy was great!!!! (the food at the Barb-B-Barn was above average too)I will be going up to Montreal for a tournament in November and I will make sure to pay a visit to "Gordie"....Hopefully he is still there!
