Gummer12 134 Report post Posted September 18, 2008 The parking ramp has always been good to me, Expensive, but good and safe. the tunnel to the Joe is a little to be desired, lacking in the signage...but just follow the flow and you'll be fine. I think it's like $10-20? But it could be less for Pre-Season.
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted September 18, 2008 Cobo center parking structure is adjacent. I think it's $12 if I remember, but it has a walkway right to an entrance to JLA. Just remember where you parked, I got lost once I think there are lots nearby for $8, but Cobo is so close and no street walking, it's worth it. Get there about an hour early, it's a huge structure but tons of people use it. Egress isn't too bad, it feeds several different exits from the area, so traffic isn't too congested like the Palace for the Pistons.
Gummer12 134 Report post Posted September 18, 2008 Yeah, that one
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 I preferred Cobo Roof. It's cheaper than under Cobo and you just walk to the end, and go down the elevator, and you saved yourself a long walk.
prenny207 1 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 or go to one of the local bars, park for free, or $5, catch the shuttle to the game and back.
Gummer12 134 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 Or park at Greek Town Casino and Walk..all Free
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 You'd walk from Greektown when there's a Peoplemover? $0.50 :)Hahaha who am I kidding, me and hehatemefrisbee walked from JLA to Greektown in the rain.
hehatemefrisbee 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 that we did, but we got to enjoy the many fine odors that Detroit has to offer...Anyway, I would park at greektown. Its free, you can get something to eat, and like JR said, you can get the people mover for .50Just watch out for Kwame, he might be begging with some of the other homeless people since he owes a "six figure" restitution fee to the city. cougarscaptain87 12 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 if you end up parking in the jla parking garage besure to remember where exactly you parked. i went there for a concert last winter, got all fucked up and took me nearly an hour to find my car, not a good experience in february weather.edit: should have explained that there are 4 rows wide, but there are also 2 sides with levels if that makes any sense. very complicated... atleast when intoxicated. mew1838 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 The Greektown + Peoplemover idea sounds best!!

Basically, gotta act like you were gambling.
SidCaeser 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 We went to a Wings game a few years back and parked in the JLA garage. I took a mental snapshot of the surroundings. We parked next to a Chrysler Pacifica. After the game we went to the same spot, saw the Pacifica, and my car was not there. We live four hours away, and I started to panic. The wife had to whiz, and everyone was watching the freak out. We walked up and down, similar to the Seinfeld episode. We went up a floor, and almost in the exact same spot was a Pacifica and our car. The place is a maze.
cougarscaptain87 12 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 your lucky you only had to go up one, i was literally the farthest possible area away from my car, jr has a good idea with the camera just incase. but if you dont want to put up with us scaring you do cobo. its like 10 or 15 and you could throw a baseball to jla from cobo just walk down riverside or riverview i forget what its called. its very literal, it runs parallel to the detroit river. JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 I think Cobo Roof is $8 for preseason and $10 for regular games. Playoffs they go as high up as $20.
mew1838 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2008 JR, how do you validate? Do I have to gamble a minimum amount?"Between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., you must present CLUB Greektown card with one hour play for validation. "
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 I believe there is a machine that does it. Slide in your card and it will punch it in.

My buddy went to a wings game last year and he thought he was going to get mugged going to his car after the game. Then your friend either parked in a bad spot or is pretty paranoid. The arena, civic center, etc are all in the industrial/business area that doesn't have much in the way of ghetto homes.Just because the (former) mayor is a criminal doesn't mean you'll find 15 every 5 steps. cmvondran 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 I would go to a bar called NEMOS. They have shuttles for like 3-5 bucks. You can take drinks on the bus to the game. After the game they pick you up, so theres no waiting for traffic. They are in and out really fast.
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Eh, hit up the Old Shillelagh by Greektown - free shuttles.

JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Probably parked next to the old MGM along Fort St, where I parked for Game 5 of the Finals. Eh, I wouldn't say it's unsafe, but I can see where he's coming from. You're going away from the major flow of fan traffic.
Dubs 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2008 What is that bar by The Joe with women bar tenders who breath fire? Its right by The Post Bar. That place was pretty fun for a before game drink.
