LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 So I'm watching Shawshank the other day (because a friend hasn't seen it since it was in the theater, which is insane) and it gets to the end scene on the beach. Am I the only one that assumed Andy and Red were gay? I mean, is that not a logical conclusion? Also, although I own the movie, I haven't seen it on DVD in a while (because TBS will play it 12 times in a weekend every few months) and I forgot how much cursing was in the movie. mack 44 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 I never came to the conclusion that they were gay, but it certainly has legs. Time with the Sisters may have woken something latent in Andy, but honestly I never presumed them to be gay. Why leave all that ass in prison if they were? Andy settled for wrinkled old ass. LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 I didn't think so the first few times I saw the movie and it certainly doesn't change the storyline, but it seems like it might be possible. And just because he didn't like the sisters doesn't mean he wasn't into Red.Another question.... Why does Han talk with a gay lisp in Star Wars when answering the call at the console in front of the holding cells? I always thought that was weird.
mack 44 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Because the only thing more gay than an Imperial officer is an Imperial officer who is in charge of the comm station.
Trooper 8 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 I think if you conclude they are gay then the movie failed terribly.

Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 The scene where the guy from Die Hard 2 is trying to get head clearly shows that Andy at least wasn't gay. Or at least not into that guy's outfit enough to BJ. ;)

I seem to remember reading the book of Episode four about 30 yrs ago and they mention that it was tougher to fight the stormtroopers now that they werent using clones. I might be right, might be wrong, but simply by the fact that I even wrote this post shows what a sci-fi nerd I was/am.
JR97 2 Report post Posted September 23, 2008 Ironically, man on man sex in prison isn't always a "gay" thing. It's actually more of a control thing. The ultimate domination over someone else. I did some research on prison and inmate recidivism. Prison is a completely different world.

Specifically they were using copies of copies for so long that the defects led them to go to the old fashioned way of recruiting/drafting/propaganda.Back to the question at hand, just because he wasn't willing to go down on a guy doesn't mean he's straight. Plenty of hetero guys don't want to go down on girls but I am not one of them. So ladies...I'll think of you when I Binaca.

So ladies...I'll think of you when I Binaca.Totally agree Mack, go hard or go home!PS: I watched Shawswank again over the weekend (missus had never seen it) and thought about this thread throughout. I don't think they were gay, especially when we look at Andy's remorse for his dead wife, how much he loved her and the poster on his wall. I know it was there to cover the hole. But if the guards knew he liked the lads wouldn't that draw suspicion? He'd want that poster to look as normal and not out of place as possible. Also, I always thought he waited for the thunderstorm as cover for his escape. But the the theft of the shoes occured before that so either he knew the storm was coming at that point or it was simply an impulse action like playing the records over the PA.
