NashvillePreds 1 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 God no....that place is probably around the 3rd worst place in the US behind a place in GA and another place in AL...Sugar Mountain in Banner Elk is only about 3.5 hours away and Winterplace in WV is about the same. The only place with some decent skiing near here is Snowshoe which is about 8 hours away from me. Sugar Mtn, that was the place I was going to check out until the girl I knew that lived around there because a hose-beast. Anyway, how good is that place? I'm spoiled by AK though so I don't want some cheesy crap. Well in proximity to Nashville, unless you want to drive 8 hours to get to Snowshoe, I'd probably go to Sugar or Winterplace. Only reason I even mention Sugar is because they have one mogul run but that is about it. Beech Mountain is also near Sugar, but it's pretty much crap. Winterplace is in south WV, so you usually can count on more snow that Sugar/Beech, but their trails suck. So basically if you want to get anywhere close to AK skiing in the SE your best bet is to make the trek to snowshoe.
