Lester is probably as good as Pettitte was at this stage of his career(when Andy was jobbed out of the Cy Young by Hentgen in 96). But Lester's velocity just seems way more sustainable. It looks so much easier than Andy's did. The only question with Lester is, if they go another round or two, he's never pitched nearly this many innings/pitches in a year. It'll be about how it effects him next year. Carmona had the same sort of jump from 06-07 and he was pretty much useless in 08.

Some interesting LCS' this year. The Rays have really hammered the Sox at Fenway and my Phillies are one game away from the WS, with Brett Myers out-hitting Ryan Howard.

I still think the two teams are closer than these games have been, but it sure seems like the D-Rays scouts and coaches have done a better job preparing their players. They seem to have a better idea what the Sox' tendencies are, particularly with the pitching.

Not pitching inside, imo, is a pretty big deal. Look at the balls away the lefties have just been hammering to left-center/center.

It's not over yet, chief.

,but this doesn't look like the '04 Sox.

id have to agree with you there, this time its just seems different then 04 and even last year when it was 3-1 to cleveland.

No Manny, Ortiz looking completely cooked at the plate, and Lowell being hurt is what the difference is. If those three were playing the way they did in 07, or on the team in Manny's case, they'd have a shot.

Beckett's obviously hurt though, he's not finishing pitches. They better just hope pitching with the bad oblique doesn't make him torque his shoulder or elbow.

People have wondered why Ortiz has floundered, but I haven't heard the lack of Manny being mentioned often enough, it seems pretty obvious. For all the Boston fans, how has Ortiz fared in the past with Manny out?

This entire postseason has left a lot to be desired. Tonight has been no different.

yep, and if the rays can close it out, a world series game played at the trop just seems like a joke

Watching Torre make questionable move after questionable move should make people feel the pain I've gone through from about 2000-2007

Why is it a joke? TB winning with a small payroll is a great story....and watching them spank the bloated payroll Sox at home in Fenway has been delicious. The Sox fans are getting a sense of entitlement that rivals the exact fans they say they deplore. it is just so much fun to see it....and the Pats too. LOL.

Not saying the team's a joke at all, and even though i am a sox fan id hav to agree that if the rays won it all itd be a good story. I was talking more about the stadium and how it has the quirky things like the ball hitting the cat-walk. And about the Pats thing, i believe the pats had the same amount of losses as the dolphins had wins last year.

This is why Aussies shouldnt play baseball. Way to open the flood gates, go box a kangaroo Balfour.

I'm not being serious, just annoyed.

I have a feeling that we may see Tampa shit the bed and lose this series. It won't be as big as the mess NY made when it choked in '04, but I think inexperience will just lead them to crumble. Hope not, but damn.

who else watched the whole game?

My favorite part of the TBS coverage was how they showed the progression of emotions from the Rays fans in the stands: from super excited, to a little concerned, to worried, to straight up baffled.
