ONE95 Question

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a hard time breaking the ONE95 in? I have needed new skates for a while and it finally went last night. Have worn bauers forever and I am thinking either the ONE95 or XXXX. Coming from the original Vapor XX. But the ONE95 look awsome and felt good in the store before when tried them on. Biggest concerns are breaking them in. Any advice or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

It would definitely help to have them baked as they are constructed with NBHs A.L.I.V.E. material. Even if you bought them off the internet, spring the $20 and get it done. Goodluck!

i will put it out there that the 95s are extremely stiff, even after baking. This coupled with a higer-cut boot definitely makes knee bend tough until you get your top eyelet lacing dialed in. I still feel like I am skaing in casts if I dont leave the top eyelets a little loose. BUT, I will agree that as far as pain with the breaking in, there is none

hey i have the one95s, and ya breaking these bad boys in might take 2 bakes, the one95 gives you great responsive skates, i just came off the s15's and those skates were broken in too fast and they got really soft and are now worthless, get the one95s you wont be disappointed, just dont expect break in over night.

I came from Graf (703 and 705) and haven't had a problem at all with the One95's. As previously mentioned, get them baked. I skated first with them unbaked, seeing as they didn't pinch or hurt when trying them on or wearing them in the house, but when I stepped on the ice I noticed it. After having them baked, they fit as well as my Grafs did, albeit for a few differences. To get the same forward flex as my fully laced 705's, I had to step down an eyelet, but aside from that, they feel as solid as my Graf while being a bit lighter and more responsive. I tried the Vapor XXXX's on...couldn't stand them. Couldn't get forward flex to save my life...too stiff in all the wrong areas for me. I guess it's all subjective in the end, but I haven't had a problem with my One95's.

I used mine for one skate for about 30 minutes with a bit of pain on the bottom of my feet, but then stopped using them for my training camps. After the camps, I used them for two practices and by my game on the weekend, there was no pain and I was just about 100% used to them.

While on the topic of breaking in the one95s, do these skates pack in at all? I understand they are quite stiff and tend not to break-in in the traditional sense of becoming softer, but does the padding inside the boot pack in much to give more space? I thought since they have been out a while now and lots of people have experience with these skates it would be a good time to ask.

The reason I ask is I want to know how close my toes being to front would be appropriate when trying them on out of the box.

I sent you a few PMs re transitioning from S15 to One95 - could you plz share your experience?

My biggest conern is the boot pitch - S15 boot being more forward pitched then One95

maybe i can help. i came from wearing RBK's, and as you know they are like ccm's with a forward pitch. when i first tried out my one95's it was like i was learning to skate again being on my heels and whatnot. so i profiled them thinking it would be back to normal after that, still not. it helped but it wasnt perfect. last night i shimmed my own skates, with about 2mm under the heel to put me on my toes a bit more. and voila! perfect, felt exactly like my rbk's.

so to answer your question in a shorter manner, the one95 sits you back on your heels more. if you are used to the forward pitch, you may have to experiment a little. go talk to your LHS guy and tell him whats up, hopefully he can profile (and shim) accordingly to help you out

I didn't find a noticeable difference between pitches between my Grafs or the ONE95's. The Grafs are obviously more on your toes, but the ONE95's are pretty close, in my opinion.

I am in the same boat, just came out of vapor xx's. No pain at all, just make sure to bake them, as already stated. Boots feel like butter. Good luck getting comfortable on the new blades, feels like trying to turn ski's. even after profiling. Might be switching steel out to regular ls2.

about the pitch from the s15 to the one95, the transition wasnt all that hard, took ten minutes to get used to forward and about 20 min to get used to skating backwards

The S-15 is tilted a bit more of a forward pitch than the neutral pitch of a CCM/RBK skate. Your sitting slightly more on your toes than on a CCM/RBK skate but not nearly as much as on a pair of Grafs. The transition to a Bauer skate where your sitting a bit more on your heel takes a little time to adjust to. Some guys just can't make the transition and need to profile the Nike/Bauer skate or add heel lifts to give the Nike/Bauer skate more of a neutral contour or forward contour feel. This is all individual preference. The hardest adjustment is from Grafs to Nike/Bauers. Both manufacturerers have different concepts on the optimum position for the skate blade for best performance on the ice.

How did you shim your own skates?
