ashtonhutch05 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Okay, this may sound absurd or whatever, but I just thought I would ask. Has anyone had any experience painting the toe caps on skates? Would it work, and if so what type of paint? I have a few crappy pairs of skates to try it out on so it's not like I have anything to lose, so I think I'm going to try it. Never heard of anyone really doing this before so enlighten me.
firestud17 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 do you mean painting it for color or putting that toe protection stuff on that easton makes?
Reaper 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 If you need them black then just use protectoe to cover them. If you want any other colour then skip it as it will either look like you're wearing figure skates (with a white toe cap) or some sort of clown shoe/skate with any other colour. interpathway 9 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Not to mention the fact that paints probably wont stick to the plastic too well, and that the toe is going to get the most abuse of any part of your skates (impacts from boards, getting up after falling, falling, pucks, sticks, etc...). ashtonhutch05 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Thanks guys, I know about protectoe and things like that, I was just wanting to paint them white, I want an all white skate, hate all you want, I like them. But I know that the toe cap would get most of the wear, but would say, Krylon Fusion work okay? It's meant for plastic so I think it would.
interpathway 9 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Sand the toecap to scruff up the surface, and I'd say go at leasssstttt three coats (screw the extra grams, it'll look better!). Maybe some clear coat on top of that, once or twice, for protection. Then let dry, photograph, and post on MSH.
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Spray a few coats and cover with clear protec toe.
VakarLajos 5 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Side note, I was bored at work and one of my coworkers wanted to black out his stick (Typhoon shaft with a Hybrid blade) but we didn't have any spray paint.A bottle of A&R toe-guard and 20 min later and we were on our way. Needed two coats to get it perfect. I wood have liked to have had a bottle of clear to put on for the last coat, but it looks pretty good now. Not the most effective, but it got the job done.
